What happened to 123Guestbook, MyGB.nl and other guestbook services
Guestbook services have been closing for years, and their names keep turning up in searches. This page lists the ones people still look for, with what we found at each address on 13 September 2026, then explains how to keep your messages and how UltraGuest's export works. Many ran for decades and were well loved; closing is not a failing. UltraGuest is not affiliated with any of them.
123Guestbook.com
Its pages returned an error (HTTP 403) to our automated check, so we could not read its news page. Its title in search results is "Closure of 123Guestbook.com Service", and a 32-Bit Cafe forum thread from May 2024 says the shutdown was announced for 1 July 2024, with guestbooks staying readable but closed to new messages; the thread describes Atabook as created in response. It still ranks high for "free guestbook", which is why so many people arrive at a closed door.
MyGB.nl
MyGB.nl also returned HTTP 403 to our check. The search-engine summary of its news page says that after 21 years the service stopped after 1 July 2024.

Two widgets built for Neocities, Ayano's and Grounded Wren's, are online but no longer work on new free accounts (see guestbooks for Neocities), and Meadow's Guestbooks calls itself a development project that "may be unreliable and prone to breaking from time to time". The only real protection is a copy of your own.
If your service has closed, or might
- Look for a read-only period or an export notice; 123Guestbook's closure left guestbooks readable for a while, which is the moment to copy the messages.
- Save the pages themselves: your browser's "save page" keeps names and messages when no export exists, and archive.org may hold a copy of pages already gone. Keep copies as CSV, JSON or plain HTML.
- When you choose a new service, check what it lets you take out and put in: Kami's Guestbooks exports JSON, CSV and HTML; Atabook imports CSV (250 messages free, 2,500 with Supporter); Gwolle Guestbook for WordPress imports from DMSGuestbook and exports CSV; UltraGuest exports everything as JSON or CSV.
- Then export regularly, not only when a closure is announced.
How UltraGuest's export works
Account › Download My Data in the Control Panel gives you everything we hold as one JSON file (account details and settings, every message including private and pending ones, banned IP addresses and the notification e-mails we sent you), or the messages alone as CSV, the moment you click. The database is backed up nightly and each backup is kept for 30 days. To be plain: UltraGuest has no importer today, so messages from a closed service cannot be loaded into a new guestbook; keep the old export as an archive and start fresh. UltraGuest has run since 2003, and a quiet guestbook is not deleted at all: a guestbook with genuine messages stays, however long nobody writes in it.
Which one is for you?
If bringing your old messages into the new guestbook matters most, look at Atabook's CSV import, or Gwolle's importer for WordPress.
