MessageI am the son of Gene Fribis, pictured in #16 and # 33. My father died in 1993 after 40 years ownership in a lawnmower sales and service shop business. The business was located just outside of St. Louis where my father was born and lived his entire life. I recall that he served on the ship in 1945 and stayed on after the war ended for a trip extending from the Pacific through the Indian Ocean, the Suez Canal, across the Atlantic and came home for good in late 1945 or early 1946.

MessageI am trying to find information regarding my grandfather. His name was Manuel DeSoto and he was from California. After Pearl Harbor was attacked he enlisted in the United States Navy, even though he was in his 30's and was married with children. He served on the Spangler and I'm assuming it was in the early 1940's during the war. If anyone knew of him or knows where I might find more information I would really appreciate it. I want to send out a special Thank You to all that have served our great country!

Messagesmilie I just wanted to thank those of you who worked on assembling all of this information. One of my closest friends served on the USS Spangler from 12/31/44 until mid 19646. He is going to be thrilled to read the regaling tales from his fellow shipmates. God Bless!!!!
