MessageWanted to thank Andy Anderson for remembering my dad "Clarence Bohlen" and notifying you of his passing. My father loved serving in the U.S. Navy with all his buddies and shipmates. He was a great man. Thank you all for your service for our country. God Bless.

MessageMy father, Donald Yost, served aboard the Spangler in 1951 as a MM2. He never talked much about his service, but I do recall having seen some pictures. I can only hope to find them again. I lost my father 10 years ago, and coming here was just a great way to try to re-connect with his past. If anybody reads this and remembers him, please contact me. I would love to hear from you.

MessageHello to all again. As you know by now, Daddy passed away on Sunday, Sept. 20th, after battling cancer. Daddy had an outpouring of people at his viewing, and I am so grateful to everyone for enriching his life with so much love and friendship. It was touching to see just how rich he was. An extended thanks for the beautiful flowers/cards that arrived from his shipmates. What's so ironic, is, that Mr. Dorough & Mr. Sims sent the exact same card! I'm so glad that my sister (Connie) found the Spangler website or I would never have had the chance to start the ball rolling in finding Daddy's friends. After finding Mr. Dorough and putting him in contact w/ Mom & Daddy, he kept the ball rolling! It has been a really hard time for all of us, but just discovering all of these new friends and ties to his past (the website)somehow keeps Daddy just that much closer still. God bless each and every one of you. Daddy always had a place in his heart for you all. Please keep in touch.
~~~Adrienne~~~
MessageHello.
I am Connie, Johnnie's eldest daughter. Dad passed away this afternoon. He had a very peaceful passing, with Mom and all 3 of his daughters by his side. He will suffer no longer.
I would like to thank all of you for your prayers, visits, and phone calls. You'll never know how much they brightened my Dad's days.
You may email me at [email protected], or my Mother at [email protected].
My Dad so wanted to be at the reunion, but he knew he wouldn't be able to. Just know that he was there with you, in spirit. He loved the Navy and his Navy buddies.
Thank you all, and may God bless you.
Connie
To all Spangler shipmates please don't miss next year's reunion in San Antonio TX you won't be sorry. My heart is warmed by all the care from everyone and I have met most of these people once or for the first time. I have returned home with the best gift - friendship.
MessageAgain........thanks ever so much for all of the support everyone's shown Daddy during these last days. Your kindness, unselfishness, and all around big-heartedness has meant the world to all of us --- but especially to Daddy. I only wish that I could have found all of you sooner. It has been a mighty rough road for all of us since March, but locating and hearing from his Spangler buddies was some of the greatest medicine Daddy could have ever received. If you only knew. Daddy really wanted more than anything to attend this year's reunion, but God had other plans for him. Like my sister said -- I have absolutely no doubt that he'll be there anyway, as planned -- if only in spirit. I hope everyone has a great time getting together and remembering the good old days and has a safe journey to and from the reunion. Please keep Daddy in your thoughts on that day, I'm sure he'll feel all of you with him. God bless and be with you all. Please feel free to email any of us at any time. My email address is: [email protected]
