MessageHello to all Dad's Spangler mates. As many of you know, Dad has been seriously ill. He was in the hopsital since last Tues. We brought Dad home yesterday, Sept. 10th. We have Hospice now, around the clock care. Dad knows he's home, and he opens his eyes every now and again. He responds to us when we talk to him or ask him questions. He is so happy to be home.

He so very much wanted to attend the reunion this year. He would want all of you to have a wonderful time. Please think of Dad while you're all together, and keep Dad and Mom in your prayers. Just know that he will be there with you in spirit; you'll know....

Thanks to all who have contacted Dad, and visited. It meant a lot to him and Mom. We are hanging on as long as we can. Only God knows when he's taking Dad. We are treasuring every second we have right now.

Hope you all have a good reunion, and know that Dad is there with you, in one way or another.

I am Connie, the oldest of his 3 daughters. My email is [email protected]
Thanks from the bottom of my heart and God Bless all of you!!

Wayne Dorough....you are one special man. Thank you!!

Connie

MessageI want to thank Don Langdon from Texas for calling me (I am Bobby Shackelford's widow) about your Maryland Reunion this month. I can't come and neither can my kids but I just loved hearing from you. It is a good thing to remember! Bobby passed away March 30, 1980 of cancer. I finished raising our six children in Cache Valley, Utah. They live on the East Coast now and I will be moving out there by next fall, perhaps I can have an invitation to come to the next reunion. Thank you each again for this remembrance of those who served. Bobby went on the serve in the United States Air Force. He was a great husband and father. Have a wonderful reunion. kshackelford

MessageGreetings,

I was doing a Google search and came across your site regarding Yokosuka Orphanage.

I was adopted in 1951 in Yokohama.......perhaps at this orphanage.....unless there were others in Yokohama in the early '50s.

My dad was stationed at Camp McGill as part of the occupation forces.

I don't have much info other than a bunch of Japanese adoption papers written on rice paper in a document holder.

Since my mom and dad are now both deceased, I'm not able to fill in large gaps of my life early on.

I'm 57 and sometimes think of my birth parents; who they were, if they're dead, if I'm the product of a mixed liason between a serviceman and a Japanese woman.

Lots of questions, no answers, but it was interesting finding your site and seeing some pics. Do you know when most were taken?

BTW, my wife and I are planning a trip to Tokyo in the spring of 2010. I intend to take my papers with me and have them translated, in hopes of filling in some of the aforementioned gaps. I also intend to visit the orphanage if it's still in operation.

Sincerely,
Bill Ashley

MessageHello to all, again. There's not much to say that my sisters' haven't already said, but I just wanted to echo my many thanks & hugs to all that responded and have contacted Daddy. It's like a sunbeam coming into the room when he hears from you all! You just can't even imagine the difference your kindness has made. I had to laugh reading my sister's bewilderment of how Daddy kept his hat on with all of his wavy hair. I remember asking one time (being girly like I am) if Daddy used bobby pins to hold his hat on in the wind!! LOL!! I figured if nurses wore them (back when) to hold their caps on, then that must be what Daddy did!! Anyway...thanks again for all of the kindness and support you've shown. A special thanks to Mr. Dorough for the personal mementos he gave so unselfishly to Daddy - it meant the world to him to now have a hat to show off! And, cousin Danny....glad that you found the site and saw Daddy's pictures - luv ya!

MessageWayne Dorough.....what can we say? You are truly a wonderful person. It was so kind of you to send Dad the hat and shirt. He is going to be so surprised!! My Mom is so overcome with that gesture of kindness that she can't stop talking about it. My Dad is going to be really proud to wear the hat. I'll send pics of him "modeling" the hat and shirt.... smilie Thank you Mr. Dorough, from the wife and daughters of Johnnie Paul. We are forever grateful to you.
Thank you to all who have contacted Dad. It really picks him up to hear from his ole shipmates, and go down memory lane with you.
Thank you all ever so much! Keep Dad and Mom in your prayers.
Thank you,
Connie
