MessageHey, Joe! How you doing? You still owe me a story about your transfer from the USS Rendova to the Spangler.

If you look at the dates atop the crew lists, Mar. 31, 1955 and Sept. 30, 1956, your time aboard fell in between the two dates. Unfortunately, those are the only dates I have available out of the twelve filed for each year in the National Archives. Sorry about that!

By any chance, when you left the ship in Yokosuka was it to the hospital there for a time?

MessageHey, Bob! Nice hearing from you! Are you planning on going to the reunion in San Antonio next October? That should be a good one, but then they all are. Would love to see you there!

As a side note for all Spangler web site visitors -- if you are using Internet Explorer 8.0 you may have noticed that some of the web pages (i.e, Welcome, History and SeaTales) have a centered text alignment. Sorry about that! The problem is now corrected and all of the text is displaying correctly, that is, with a left text alignment.

MessageHi, Connie! I'm fine and doing well. I'll contact you by email. Great to hear from you.

To all other visitors: Please include your email address as part of your message if you want folks to get back to you. Putting it in the entry box when you post your message is helpful for my use in contacting you, but it doesn't show up in the message itself.

MessageI am delighted to have found this site. I am the daughter-in-law to Fredrick and Calista Washburn, son of Captain Orval J. Washburn, who served the USS Spangler from 1956 to 1958. I was doing some research for my oldest son, Ryan, and was brought to this site. I read these stories in "awe" and marvel at what an incredible man Orval was. He passed away in 1997. Fredrick will be spending many hours on this site! Thank you for sharing your moments and thoughts of Orval. We look forward to hearing from anyone who may have known Orval. My heart is so full. Warmest Regards, Joelle Washburn
