MessageHi Wayne:
Story of the day: I reported aboard the
USS Spangler. The 696 was tied together with several other DE's. As I went up the ladder I had to cross over several DE's, Went below to my assigned area, and low and behold everybody was drinking red grape juice, when the jug got low some one went ashore to the store with a large duffle bag. The bag was large enough to carry two half gallons of red grape juice, this was accomplished several times that night. I don't know how they got rid of the empties. Do you Wayne? More to come yes or no?

MessageMy stepdad Doyel Houk was on board from 55-58. He spoke many times about his time aboard ship. We lost dad to lung cancer in 2007. Thought I'd let anyone who was friends with him know he spoke of you fondly. Thanks

MessageHi, Connie! Wonderful hearing from you, as always! I'm not sure what the problem could be with the emails, but the last I received was earlier in February. I'll send you one to make sure you have the right address.

MessageI am trying to contact "Maurice G Mulkey". He is my cousin and we have lost contact with each other. His former home was in Chickamauga, GA. I believe he now lives in Florida. I remembered he was on the USS Spangler and his name is listed. Perhaps you have a recent address or email for him.

MessageI was an FTSN in late 57 and early 58 and made the first Reserve training cruise to Hawaii then transferred to another tin can out of San Diego. I remember Charles Kuntz from Fox div. and Shumway from gunnery div.
I ended up doing 22 years and retired in 77.
