MessageHi all; My dad was mmc Ted R. Olsen, he served aboard in the 52-53 time frame and is mentioned in the 'day the Spangler disapeared' sea story.

I remember him taking me down to the ship a few times, very impressive for a five or six year old! One thing that stands out is the memory of walking the brow between the ships,,that thing looked like a toothpick to me!!

The website is great, and shows a lot of dedication to the memory of Spangler and shipmates. I wish my old ships had one as good.

MessageMemorial Day ( or as we oldsters know it, Decoration Day) On this day -- and all other days -- I have in my mind and heart my SPANGLER shipmates in 1945/46 -- particularly those who have gone -- Eldon O'Neal and Billy Hux.

MessageOn April 16 I had the priveledge of visiting and having lunch with Burt Huls Lt XO 52 54. What a great time we had sharing old memories of our times on the Spangler. When I refered to him as Mr Huls, he responded by saying, "Jim we are no longer in the Navy, just call me Burt." Old habits die hard and I will always think of him as Mr Huls. He was a great officer and a good XO. We talked about several other of the officers and Capt. Laws. All and all we had a good group of officers and I guess that is what made her such good ship

MessageI was just contacted by David Norris and have enjoyed the web site. I served aboard the Spangler from Feb.,1949 - Jan. 1951. I would enjoy hearing from any of those who were aboard at the same time as I have lost contact with several of my shipmates. I was located in the machine shop and served in the auxillary crew.

MessageI am the daughter of Clarence E Bohlen SH1 who served on the USS Spamgler around 1957. I am looking for Wm. Giles who served as my dad's best man when he got married in Aug. 1957 in San Diego. My father is currently in a nursing home in Illinois battling dementia. I am trying to get as much info as I can get on his career as I would like to put together a scrapbook for him. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
