| Message | I was a cook aboard the USS Spangler 1955 & 1956 I went on board in San Diego Harbor, I was dispatched from the USS Rendova San Francisco ( moth balled). I left in 1956 for a tour of shore duty NTC San Diego. While on manuvers in the Pacific we burned up the main exciter aboard ship and had to put in Subic Bay Phillipines for major repairs. I intoduced the officers to my mothers famous Pizza late one night. The following week pizza was on the main menue.  |

| Message | That was a great re-union in September. Some of you that I served with were difficult for me to recognize, but I found out in short order that I was able to identify many of you at the re-union by hearing your voice from 52-53. Amazing! |

Pedersen served on the USS Spangler I believe 1954-1958...I have spent my life hearing stories of his time in the Navy and the wonderful experiences he had..I would love to hear from any of the guys..My Dad is still living in Montana and still working his business...He doesn't have a computer but I would be glad to pass on messages from some of his friends. | Message | Hi all; My dad was mmc Ted R. Olsen, he served aboard in the 52-53 time frame and is mentioned in the 'day the Spangler disapeared' sea story. I remember him taking me down to the ship a few times, very impressive for a five or six year old! One thing that stands out is the memory of walking the brow between the ships,,that thing looked like a toothpick to me!! The website is great, and shows a lot of dedication to the memory of Spangler and shipmates. I wish my old ships had one as good. |
