I had a call from David Norris a few days ago and found out that there is a USS Spangler re-union in September.
I have a son, a daughter, son-in-law and 2 grand children in the San Diego area: San Bernardo. So I will be very glad to make this, my first Spangler re-union.
Nice to see that Jim Howard and Stan Beiss have been contributing stuff from my era on the Spangler.
I liked the story about the mustering out at the DesBase that Jim Howard noted. It is similar to my experience. But I left the Navy too and immediately enrolled at the University of Idaho, beginning there in the 2nd semester: January 1954.
I have had no regrets for that decision. My life has been good, and I look forward to seeing some of my shipmates again.
The only two I have seen since my service has been Lt. Tom Armitage, while we were at Boeing in Seattle and Lt. Bert W. Huls, then with an oil company headquartered in Century City, CA. That was in the fall of 1973, when I was at the CBS-TV station to do an information and referral production related to Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse that was hosted by Archie Bunnker's son: Meathead (aka Rob Reiner).
I am executive producer of a television program called: Senior Showcase, a program for seniors, by seniors, about things of interest to seniors including their hobbies, life styles, health tips, etc. I host parts of the 60-minute format on most of the productions: 123 programs. |
