MessageMy father served on K.I. and I as a young boy also run free on the base as boys would do. I was their from my memories from 1976- 1980. I was 6 when we left. I so wish I could return to the base housing and revisit the blueberry patches that I used to frequent.
Dad (Mike Greene)passed away in may of 2012. He was a true dedicated american!
I think the closing of the base hit him hard. He continued service with the Indiana air national guard until his passing.
God bless!

MessageHi...My father was a boom operator and flew in the KC135 Stratotanker refuling planes over Vietnam, Thialand, etc. during the Vietnam war in the late 60's and was based in KI Sawyer. He retired in 1970 from that base after 20 years in the Air Force as a Master Sargent. I have fond memories of working as a candy striper in the hospital on base as a teenager. He now lives in Florida.

MessageHi, I was at KI from 1985 - 1991 (I think!) I'll have to go and look!

I was in the 410th FMS Emvironmental Shop, Electro/Environmental shop, then went to 410th OMS, bomber branch.

Lots of good memories!

Got to get UP there some day just to see the place!

MessageI enjoyed my tour of duty at KI Sawyer from 1976 to 1980. I had a great experience coming right out of High School and joining the USAF. I was fortunate to part of a B-52 crew as the gunner which was one of the Planes that flew around the world the second time during the Iran Hostage crisis. I'm now a Juvneile Probation Officer of 24 years. My goal is to retire next year and make plans for my wife and I to revisit that part of my life. smilie smilie

MessageHad an opportunity to visit K.I Sawyer and the museum two weeks ago. Had a wonderful conversation with Bob Vick reminiscing about my stay there from 1976-1977. The museum is a great legacy for preserving the history of all those who served.

I'm glad we had the opportunity to spend a wonderful time remembering the past.
