MessageSept76-80 Was a crewchief on the F-106. Couldn't wait to get out of the military, but it was actually the best time in my life. Winters are nothing like they are in the U.P. Only heard about two reunions so far and have been to both. Went to the first one with Chris Croly and the next one with Dave Hardwick. Didn't know a single person there. Still, had a blast being back in Marquette. Need another reunion soon, and maybe someone I actually knew back then, will show up. The U.P. has changed from the way I remember it, but it's still the same ole place. Love being back on the ole base and reminiscing. Get in touch and lets talk.

MessageStationed at K.I. from Oct 1975 to Aug 1984 serving with 410 FMS AGE and 410 MMS Equipment Maintenance (trailer shop). Saw lots of snow in every month of the year over 9 years. Lived above the base lake on Albatross circle. Favorite base in my career.

MessageIt is just me, the President signing in to post a note. I have been reading some of the messages and I thank you all for the kind words about the museum. We are still working hard at keeping the museum running. Good so far. We are approaching our 20 year anniversary of closure & we hope to have a grand party on July 10, 11 & 12. The airport will also have an open house. We are still in the same building, Recreation Center, on 3rd street.
Stop by.

MessageMy dad was in the AFB and we were stationed two times at K.I. Sawyer. The first time I was in kindergarten, 1974. A year later we were sent to Lawrey AFB in Denver. Then a year after that, in 1976, we were sent back to K.I. Sawyer. He then left the Air Force in 1978. My best memories are of K.I. Sawyer. What a nice base it was in the 70s. I'm glad to see a page that keeps its memory alive. smilie

MessageHi all. I arrived at Sawyer as 410 Bomb Wing Wing & base Information Ofcr Sep 1964, straight out of OTS. There I met and married my wife, Ruth (Larson)JAN '67, an RN at the base hospital, 2-3 months before we both were transferred to Tinker AFB, OK. There I was Radio/TV Branch Chief at AF Home Town News Center. While at KIS, I bought Ruth birthday skis so she could learn on the base ski run and rope tow. NOT a well thought-out Bday gift. I left Tinker and active duty as a Capt. and remained in the reserve for a while. I'm now retired federal civil service (from FAA regional Public Affairs manager), now living in Gig Harbor, WA. Many great memories, friends & a great work team from Sawyer. Thanks for keeping K. I Sawyer AFB memory alive through this museum.

MessageHello All

I was at KI sawyer from 76 - 78 working in the 410 FMS at the jet engine test cell. Had a blast great memories. Got to ride along on refueling missions, that was an experience of a lifetime. Made some good friends there.
I was through the base about 6 years ago, rode around through housing and went to visit the test cell. All of the building are different business now and there is Sawyer International airport. They built a very nice terminal building. The big concrete blast fence is still up behind the old test cell. I remember one time the base commander called the test cell and told us to shut that damn engine off, he was trying to have a meeting. We were probably running a J-57 with full water.
