| Message | Nick was a wonderful person to ride with and an inspiration. During the Ride Across California in 2010, Nick was a model of kindness, caring and patience with Nicholas. I particularly remember going up Banner grade and seeing Nick help out Nicholas with what I believe was an asthma attack. Nick was calm and collected while he helped Nicholas to cool down, control his breathing and get back on his bike. Nick will be missed but his memory will stay with us. |

| Message | I met Nick only once -- riding over Torrey Pines one morning on the way to work last year, someone came up next to me at a light. He said his name was Nick, and as we rode on we fell into conversation about totally ordinary stuff: our kids, jobs, after-school activities, biking to work. Just a 15 minute chat but I remember his upbeat attitude, and I remember getting to work thinking that you meet cheerful & interesting people on the bike. My heart goes out to you all. May you find peace. |

| Message | What a wonderful guy Nick was indeed. One of the nicest guys we've ever met. We continue to live in The Venutos old house on Ducos Place and are surrounded by all of his handy work still today. | Message | While I live a few miles away, I never met Nick, nor do I know the family. I'm a father of 2 boys under the age of three. Since becoming a father, I've developed an appreciation of how lucky we all are to be here & how short our time may be. This story is a kick in my gut and saddens me immensely. My condolences to Mrs. Venuto and your children. If one may judge a book by it's cover, you have a beautiful, sweet family, which makes this story all the more tragic. From the bottom of my heart, I wish you all the very best, as well as the strength to make it through this difficult time. |

| Message | I did not know Nick at all, but as a Rancho Penasquitos resident, my wife and I share in your sorrow. No more will I just drive on 56, but will remember Nick every time now that I go by that area. May he rest in peace. |

| Message | Today, instead of running with my running group I decided to run the "infamous" Hillside Loop which takes you around La Jolla up to the cross atop Mt. Soledad Park. I knew Nick would be heavy on my mind today but I figured his spirit would motivate me to get up the arduous slope in no time at all. Unfortunately, my legs felt heavier than usual and my breath was strained as if I have never run a day in my life. As I shuffled to the base of the cross, I turned, unlatched my hands from my knees and stood up tall to admire the view. Off in the distance I noticed a solo cyclist gliding effortlessly as he was approaching the exhilarating decent down the mountain. It was that moment when a big smile erupted on my face when I realized it was Nick paying me back for a time when we rode our bikes together up Highland Valley Road. As Nick and I started the ascent, Nick's rear derailleur broke leaving him with only one gear to make it up the mountain. Most people would quit and turn around but Nick pressed on. I teased him about going slow as I clicked my way to easier gears. I think I may have even called him an "Out-of-Shape-A-Pot-A-Mus" because he was working so hard. We made it back to Poway okay and we had many good laughs about that ride. Nick, just remember when I see you on the flip side I may grease your wings for making me struggle so much today. Clearly, I was the "Out-of-Shape-A-Pot-A-Mus" today! Ride easy my friend. Your family is surrounded with love! |
