MessageMy brother Robert R. Flahert Jr. was an Aviation Photographers Mate in the early '60's. He went to the Med and was aboard when rammed by the Lyberian Tanker. He was a A/C with VS-26. He was the photograher on the recovery helecopter that picked up Gus Grissom.

Also... there was a story about being berthed next to the HMCS Bonaventure (CVL 22)so, being friendly they invited the Randolph's crew over. This was when they were still allotted a GROG ration. Anyway, somehow, he ended waking up in the grass at the end of the runway at NAS Norflok with a horse blanket safety pin through the lobe of his ear an wearing the cap of the HMCS Bonaventure. His Chief was not pleased at his lack of military bearing when he got back to the ship. In my six years of active duty (AE1 A/C ) I NEVER did ANYTHING like that. Gee, and I looked up to my big brother.
