MessageDear Al,
The story about Whaley was not accurate. He was a personal friend of mine and this is what really happened. Whaley's wife or girlfriend was pregnant and he derived a scheme to get kicked out of the Navy. He decided to lower himself by rope into the water, the waves and mist was so strong until his grip on the rope became weak and he began yelling and screaming for anyone's attention and fell into the water. Luckily someone on the fantail spotted him floating by, yelling and screaming. Well upon retrieving him he went straight to the brig, where I soon followed him. What gave Whaley away was he folded his clothes neatly in the hanger bay, then lowered himself over. HaHaHa! No West Virginia for Whaley!

MessageHi Cody,

My friend Hervey Chevrette served on the Randolph the same time. He told me the story about the Kamikaze hitting the ship. He said he was watching a movie at the time. I wonder if they know each other ? I believe Hervey worked in the payroll office on the ship. email [email protected]
