MessageI was so glad to find this website.I was stationed at K.I. from '66 to '70.Crew chief on B52H 60-031.Before they started repainting them from white and silver I got my name and ground crew put on the side and was really proud of that. The winters were really cold and lots of snow but it was a great place to be.Anyone remember pizza at Rosies in Gwinn ? The Idle Hour just down the street ? I would like to get back there sometime but it sure wouldn't be the same.Spent lots of time on "The Pad " waiting for the horn to go off.Mido or Bravo you never knew.Cartridge starts and then topping off the tanks.Lots of fun.410th OMS.Would like to get a patch, don't have any of my old fatigues any more.If any of you were there with me it would be great to hear from you.

MessageI was stationed at K.I. from June '87 to June '90 as an Instruments Specialist with the 410th OMS, AMS, and FMS, before pcs'ing to RAF Mildenhall. I'm retired and living in Florida now, but I'd actually prefer some of those KI winters about now. I grew up in Michigan (GR area) so I prefer colder weather.

My wife and I stopped at the base during a trip in '03. It was bittersweet, however, to see my old shop open and unlocked, and wasting away with about 1 1/2 inches of water throughout the darkened building. I'm very glad to hear that there's a group willing and able to keep the bases heritage alive. The next time I'm in Michigan I'll have to take a trip up there and check out the Museum.

Some of my fondest memories are from when I was stationed at KI: camping, midnight bonfires on the Lake Superior beach, the view from Sugarloaf, and riding snowmobiles on and off the base. I was stationed a lot of places, but my heart has always been at KI.

Thank you for keeping KI alive, and keep up the good work.
