MessageI was station at K.I. Sawyer from 1970 - 1972 in 410 AMS. Repaired Doppler navigation systems on B-52H and KC-135. I have lots of good memories of good friends, good shop chiefs, and families. It was one of the best and closest communities I have ever lived and worked in.

I was in "The Hole", then moved to the civil engineering dorm and then back to "The Hole" again.
Served my final year in Udorn, Thailand.

MessageI was assigned to the 410 AMS PMEL Lab from 77 or 78 to 85. Lived in base housing on Genie, and worked in the SAGE Building. Thoroughly enjoyed the UP, and my time at Sawyer.

MessageI grew up in the area and one of my most memorable times with my dad was at a KIS air show going into the huge transport planes and watching the (F35B?) stealth fighter take off straight up.

Now our nephew is in the Air Force and carrying on the tradition.

Keep up the great work!

MessageI served with the Air Police squadron from Oct 64 to Nov. 66. I just bought the "I survived KI Sawyer" tee shirt. In 1965 the snow was so deep we had to go out the 2nd floor fire escapes to go to work! I worked as a security guard, on the B-52 alert ramp and the alert kc's. I volunteered for Nam, to get out of there, but we had alot of good times too. SMSgt Janek was the NCOIC of the squadron. Tsgt Wixon, was 1 of my flight leader NCOIC's along with SSgt Irwin, and SSgt Ben Spears who I worked with in Bien Hoa 3rd Security Police Sqdn in Nam.
We called Sgt Irwin "FREIGHT TRAIN" cause he was big. He called me 'Young un" He put his stripes and career on the line for me once , when I put a Captain on his butt for trying to jump the wire leading into the alert KC area. Lots of memories from KI.Met alot of great guys. Considering I was only 17 when I got there, I grew up alot!
Thanks for the memories, alot more good than bad.
When I got back from Nam, I went to Minot. Just like the bombers I used to walk around. If Leon LeDuff (Duff)sees this, please get ahold of me. I tried to find you but no success. You were my 'Big Brother' when we were roomies. Would love to hear from you. Did you go back to Pontiac when you got out? love ya Bro. I still have the letter you wrote Cindy, she saved it. I ended up marrying her in 1981. Still together in 2013.
