| Message | My first duty station was with the 410 SPS in early '74. What a place! I moved into Marquette after 6 months in the SP dorm and must say I look back on all of it with great fondness. The sights and smells, the pristine nature of everything around you. And I was 19 when I arrived. You never forget those things and I'm glad I had the experience there. I left in June '75 for ABD back at Lackland/Camp Bullis and then on to RAF Bentwaters, which is also gone now... |

| Message | Stationed at Sawyer from 1978 to 1983; 410th BW (Maintenance Control); 410th OMS (Bomber Phase Dock Chief; Bomber Flightline Chief; Bomber Alert Chief). Best assignment of my 20 years. Good people, good base, good area. Spent quite a bit of time canoeing, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, and cross-country skiing. Oh, and I went to work, too. After the Air Force, obtained a bachelors degree, then worked for Intel, then as a contract investigator with OPM, and then as a contract processor for DOE's NNSA. Still miss the U.P. though; think of it often. I really miss the U.P.'s 4 seasons - winter, July 3rd, July 4th, and July 5th. |

| Message | My husband was a dentist at K I Sawyer and also played on the base Basketball team. I have been looking for Thair and Jana Phillips> Hopefully. someone know their address. We were there from 1976-78. |

| Message | Proudly served at KI Sawyer AFB, MI from 92-95 working in Base Ops/Airfield Management. Have very fond memories from there and many memories of frozen night shifts on the flightline working with the snow removal troops and taking braking tests on the runway (RCRs) to measue the "slickness" that the pilots would need. I was one of the last troops left there as we closed the base down. |

| Message | I served at K.I. Sawyer in 1974 and 1975. I lived in a trailer park right off base because they had no barracks for women then and there was no such think as co-ed at that time. How times have changed. I served as a 391 for the Red Bulls, 87th FIS. Fond memories of the base and the surrounding area. I remember one Thanksgiving getting 24 inches of snow in 24 hours and I had to try to catch a flight for Florida for vacation. Good times in the UP for sure you bet cha ey! |

| Message | I spent four years at K I Sawyer, 1975-1979, Security Specialist. Lived in the barracks until 1978 when I got married, then had a duplex on Fury. Visited the base today, really sad to see how it has deteriorated, not sure what I expected. Did enjoy visiting the Heritage Museum. |

| Message | I spent about a year and a half at K.I. from mid 87 to Jan of 89 with my husband, Ken Brackney who was a member of the 307th AREFS. We both loved it in the U.P. and made many life long friends while there. We bought a home in Skandia in the woods and planned on staying as long as possible. Sadly, Ken was killed along with Dusty Llewellyn, Dave Vickers and the rest of crew E-180 on Jan. 31, 1989 at Dyess AFB. I still have many wonderful memories of the Base, Gwinn and all of the natural beauty we enjoyed there. So glad to be able to see pictures and names I recognize from our time there. Our daughter was born there. I hope to make the trek back up to visit soon. Thanks so much for keeping the memories alive.  |

| Message | Stationed at KI 72-76. B-52 gunner in the 644th. Lived on Savage over in the far end of the housing area. Probably the best assignment of my whole career. Joe Troiber, Deahl Pickett, John Cox, Rayno Lehtinin, Stan Miser, the list goes on and on. I visit with Rayno every two years when I pass through the UP. Been in Alaska now for 15 years playing bush-pilot. Going to "unusual" places and getting to live in such a magnificent setting. KI was the training ground for this one. Actually KI to Minot and now right outside of Eielson. KI was a wonderful experience. |
