MessageServed in the 2001 Comm Sq from Jan 1989 till Aug 1993 when BRAC list came out. Then became NCOIC of 410th Wing, Base Closure Office. Job was to work with squadrons to draw Base down till last B52 left in November 1994. Left Air Force with heavy heart at that time. Many good people in the Gwinn area and the "Family Mindedness" that all the "Blue Suiters" had at KI was unforgettable. I've been back three times since and am sad to say that each time it erodes more and more. We knew this would happen after visiting other closed bases, such as Kinchloe. Smiles and tears when remembering the place my kids grew up and I met so many lifetime friends. After finding this site we are planning another trip this summer from our home in Marshfield, WI. God Bless KI!

MessageWas stationed at Sawyer from July 1967 thru April of 1970 in CE as an interior electrician. Enjoyed the tour despite the long cold winters. We go back to visit the U.P. often as I married Donna Haglund from Skandia so we have plenty of family to visit and places to enjoy. Enjoyed working with fellow airmen and civilians alike. Would enjoy hearing from anyone in CE at that time.
