| Message | Stationed at K.I. 64-66, 62nd FIS. Backseater in F-101s. Have been back to the U.P. a few times since my wife is from Negaunee. In a way nothing looks the same at K.I. but if you close your eyes you can picture all that went on during those days. As someone else pointed out, it is like a scene out of "12 O'Clock High". I finally hit 75 this year and never dreamed I would live this long. If Jack Jeranek and Tony Skur are still kicking they are older than I. Jack is in N. Wisconsin and Tony in Fort Wroth, TX. Best of everything to all who were stationed at K.I. "Bless them All, the long, the short and the tall..........." |

| Message | Came to 87th @ Duluth International Airport right out of tech. school in 1970. The following spring, the Squadron moved to K.I. Sawyer AFB. Served as a Jet Engine Mechanic on the F106 at Sawyer until 1974. First visit back came in the fall of 2011. As I stood outside the fence by the engine shop looking at busted out windows in the hangers and weeds growing in the cracks on the tarmak, I could almost hear F106 engines running up and see F106s taxing to the runway. I felt like the clerk in the movie "12 O Clock High" as he stood on the abandoned runway and remembered his past experiences. It all came back. Like it was yesterday. When you remember what the base was like, it is hard to see what it has become. Still, the only constant is change. Hopefully, Sawyer will live on. I have good memories of my stint there. The 87th FIS and K.I. Sawyer AFB will always be a part of me. Just as it will in every vet who served there. Best of Luck to All! |

| Message | I was stationed at K.I. from Sept 1963 thru Aug 1966. Assigned to 410 Bomb Wing; worked as ECM Tech on the B-52H. My wife and I visited the museum in June; you folks have done an excellent job!!! Thank You !!!! We have made many trips over the years to the U.P., visiting my lovely wife's family. My first daughter was born at the base hospital on a very snowy Dec. day. We were living in Gwinn at the time and skated in HO! HO! We then moved to base housing 105 Constellation St. Driving through the base at the present time is very sad; so many buildings are in disrepair. Seems like years ago and it also seems like yesterday. I might be getting old!!! |

| Message | I was stationed at KIS from Jan 1988-Dec 1992. I mainly workedin Supply,but was fortunate enough to work in Tanker Material Control, and C.E. Material Control. I loved it up there. Might go back to visitin August. |
