Messagehi everyone. I was stationed at K I Sawyer from Dec 73 to Jul 76 in the 87th Egress shop. I had just come from Elmendorf afb Alaska so I was used to the weather. I did love it there though because the summers were a lot warmer than Alaska. my wife and I lived at 457 packet and had some great friends there and I worked with a great group of people. several of our friends camped out our last week there with us at the lake and we had a great time. we moved back to Alaska and were there till 1997 when we moved to North Dakota. i'm hoping to get back up there soon and see the f106 and everything, I miss it a lot. it was my last duty station. I also hope to get to go to the next reunion. I was going to the first one and had some medical problems and my doctor wouldn't let me travel. I wear a flight jacket with my 87th patch and all my other units proudly displayed all the time.

MessageArrived at K.I. in August 1964. I was seventeen years old when I got to K.I., fresh out of High School and two months time and grade out of basic.

My first two years were spent cooking at the SAC Alert Pad, then eight months in Food Service Supply and the rest in the Food Service Staff Office as a Food Service Accountant.

In the summer of 1967 I got married and moved my bride to K.I. We lived at 136 Provider. That fall I took a part time job as night manager of the Family Store in the housing area until my discharge in June of 1968

I met some really good friends there, some who I'm still in touch with weekly. From Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, Nebraska, and California.

I must say that I was very lucky, stationed for 3 years, 9 months 11 days a 186 miles from home (Ashland Wisconsin).

I went back for the first time to visit "MY" base in the summer of 2012. Can't explain how sadden I was to see the damage done to the barracks by civilians punks that live in the housing area now. I was told that the sheriff caught them and just let them go.....go figure.

I'm constancy trying to find other service buddies. Easier now that we have the internet and Facebook. Sometimes it's too little too late, they have moved on to the air base in the sky. How's the song, "Here we go into the wild blue yonder, flying high way up in the sky".

Sending all the Vets a happy Veterans Day today (2015) and forever.

MessageWe thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the K.I. Sawyer Air Museum. A special thanks to Bob for the personal tour of the aircraft hanger housing the Russian plane. Our whole experience there was the highlight of our trip to the U.P.

MessageWe were stationed at KI Sawyer from about 1960-1962, my dad was RCAF so I guess on some kind of exchange programme. I was only 2-3 years old so don't remember, but if anyone was there at the time, love to see some pictures posted.

MessageI was stationed at KI Sawyer AFB October 1968-June 1971. Assigned to Budget Office (BCRB) of 410 Combat Support Group as Administrative Specialist (702x0) and worked in the old SAGE building. Office staff included two local civilians: Kenneth F. Sager (GS-9 - Budget Officer) and Alice Peters (GS-7? - Budget Analyst). Also there was Lt. Pete Bodnar (Cost Analyst, I think.) I progressed from E2 to E5 (Ssgt) under the supervision of Mr. Sager. I have fond memories of Mr. Sager and Alice and the way they treated me.

MessageWorked in the 87FIS engine shop. I lived on base for a couple of years then moved to Gwinn. I really enjoyed my years at KI. The best part was the many wonderfull people I met. I recently was given a contrail club token by my son. I cannot remember if what club it was for. NCO or O club.
