| Message | My wife and I were 12 years old in summer of 1961 when our B-52 pilot dads arrived at KI. We attended Gwinn HS and Graduated in 67 and were married in 68 in FL. We arrived in Sept 77 from Kincheloe AFB and I was a B-52 Nav in 644th. I went to KC-135s at KI in 80 in the 46th ARS as a nav and departed for Pease AFB in 81. In 88 I arrived in the 307th ARS and was the Exec to the Wing CC and Chief of Tanker Stan/Eval. My father in law left in 67 and returned in 71 as the Wing CC, Col Jack Thompson. Love the UP and KI Sawyer! Great memories living on Fortress st next to Peggy's street Sidewinder. Our parents were good friends. Remember the ski hill opening, building scout site at base lake, with Sgt Shane, and going back to the Big falls behind the base and having BB gun battles. Remember the hwy 41 extension opening day. Remember super snow storms and digging out. |

| Message | I was stationed at KI from 1966-1970. I was assigned to CES. I have many memories from this base. I was back in the 80's to see the base before it closed. I have lost touch with many of the guys I worked with. Best time in my Life. It made me the person I am today. PS, I hated the Cold and Snow. This was God's country. |

| Message | KI Sawyer was my first duty station 1984-86; 410 CHS Orderly Room Clerk (702X0C)and Disaster Preparedness Office. This base was one of the best kept secrets of the Air Force -- People in Guinn & Marquette & the military community were the best people I have been around & these people made it possible to get through the severe winters playing board games, playing Eucher, spending time at the Arts & Crafts Center doing ceramics, going to college, and snow shoeing. I am proud to have been a UPPER! |

| Message | We were stationed at Sawyer 1972 -1985. My husband Olen (Hank) Bruce was a msgt with F106 avionics. Our daughter Cassandra was born at Sawyer. I lost Olen to diabetes in 2005. We spent hundreds of hours playing dungeons & dragons with great friends at KIS, and I still remember some of the guys walking all the way to our quarters from their barracks on snow days. Now our daughter and 2 grandkids are still playing D & D. I would love to see the UP again, the spectacular fall leaves, a day's worth of snow, and to visit Marquette again. Lots of good memories! |

| Message | I was stationed there with the 62 FIS from Oct 1964 to Dec 1966. I worked in the alert kitchen. Lived in the gym playing a lot of basketball. Bought my first car, a 57 Ford fair lane convertible, from Capt. Larry Livingston. I remember going to the Roosevelt bar in Ishperming. Those we the days as an 18 year old kid just out of high school. Had a lot of fun. I'm nearly 70 and wonder how I made it this far. ![]() |
