MessageI only have a second, but really want to respond.

Trish, I don't believe in socialism and if I came across as that, sorry, but NO! I don't think having people who may gazillions pay higher taxes is socialism, but who am I to argue; it's only my view point. smilie

Pappy, I love your vision. I do and I think I agree with you, but that might sound contradicting to what I wrote.

I WROTE A LOT MORE BELOW THIS, BUT IT SAID I HAD INAPPROPRIATE WORDS AND DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO FIGURE IT OUT. smilie smilie smilie

I will write more later smilie

Message"Socialism is the doctrine that man has no right to exist for his own sake, that his life and his work do not belong to him, but belong to society, that the only justification of his existence is his service to society, and that society may dispose of him in any way it pleases for the sake of whatever it deems to be its own tribal, collective good." MessageSocialism -- You have two cows. The government takes them and puts them in a barn with everyone else's cows. You have to take care of all the cows. The government gives you as much milk as they think you need.

Communism -- If you have 2 cows, you give them to the government; and the government gives you some milk (maybe until the cows die).

Capitalism -- If you have 2 cows, you sell one and buy a bull; you then sell all the excess milk to the government who in turn ships it to fascist and communist governments.

MessageGina, Although the ideas of socialism seem appealing, it a fundamentally flawed system and it begins a slippery slope that falls into communism. Our country tried socialism back in 1620 at Jamestown Virginia. But it proved a complete failure (as it always does) after a while, as it prompted laziness and inefficiency. They almost died of starvation.

Socialism fails because it kills and destroys the human spirit--just ask the people leaving Cuba in homemade rafts and boats. ...

Russia implemented socialism in 1917. The experiment failed and its economy is in shambles.

Socialism denies a basic human trait. People will work hard if they get something back. They will not work hard solely to benefit people outside of their immediate family. A system that tries to make all people equal, will only make all people equally miserable.

MessageGina,
You are missing two very important points. (1) I think McCain and the Repugnantlicans are almost as bad as Obama and the Demoncrats. (2) You seem to think this is a disussion of which problems the government should be solving with whose money. I say the government should get out of the problem solving business altogether. They always make it worse. If they only tended to national defence and the prevention of violent crime they would require so little money we could support them with pocket change. The vision I have of America, and which I believe I share with our founding fathers, is one where a free people solve their own problems, and live with the consequences of their own mistakes, unless their neighbors freely choose to help them out.

Messageand throwing medication at mental health patients and offering abortion clinics to young mothers. I am pro-choice, but I can't imagine abortion being anyones #1 choice. I think if there was more educated parenting, more education period, more family support, more programs that offered support, there would be less abortion and a lot less crime all the way around. But geez louise this is a whole other topic and I could go on and on.

The point is I think Government should do more to support the issues and less trying to fix the outcome of the problem AFTER THE FACT. smilie If I want to prevent pregnancy, I take precautions before it happens, not after it already happened. But that seems to be what our current government and the McCain/Palin government want to continue. smilie

MessageI think I came across wrong. I don't believe in giving to the poor with the rich's wealth, but I do believe they should pay more in taxes because if you think about it in so many more ways than one, they use more resources, more of everything. I don't think I should have to pay taxes out the b-u-t-t while some corporate millionaire is flying to Bermuda for his fourth time this year. Think of all the resources that person uses. So, they should pay more taxes than the rest of us po folk who can barely afford a mini vacay a few hours away. At least I got one though. I am not a democrat, liberal maybe, but I'm neither democrat or republican. I think McCain is crazy and unstable and I can't imagine having him as our president or worse her.

I like Obama's ideas and his vision. I guess we will just have to wait and see what he does because I think he is going to win, regardless of my standpoint smilie

As for feeling guilty for wanting my children safe, I don't feel guilty about that at all. I felt guilty that I said something that sounded racist, which I am the furtherest thing from that. I took an anthropology class and it was very enlightning. I don't have enough space here to go into it, but you'd be amazed at how our country APPEARS to keep certain groups, including mental health people, surpressed or kept in their place, so to speak. Instead of investing in prevention methods or programs that educate, they make more money by fueling the fire......

Message(...contd.) Although I'd probably vote for an independent if I thought that vote would actually make any kind of difference whatsoever!

But that's the beautiful thing about this country - we ARE allowed to vote for who we agree with more - and we are not all forced to believe and do the same things. I feel blessed to live here.

You moved to Rolling Ridge after we did. We lived there about three months before I got pregnant with Justice. I think I met you when I was already showing. When did you move in? We moved in October '94. We walked over there when you were outside talking to our duplex neighbors - the cop and his wife (with the handicapped son). smilie
