| Message | Gina - Trust me, I'm sure no one that reads this is offended. But you might get some heated comments back.  Well, ya know - that's just it - crime rates ARE higher where there are more blacks/hispanics. That statistic is true. I don't see not wanting to live in those areas as racist - I see it as wanting to be in a SAFE area for your kids. Who knows what kind of backlash I'll get for THAT statement. I'm really not prejudice at all. But I look mostly at crime rates when I'm looking at an area to live in. The areas in NC that we are looking to move to with the lowest crime rates? Have the lowest amounts of whites. It's just a fact. Don't feel bad for wanting to keep your kids safe! I don't see taking from the rich to give to the poor as unfair. If I am making a lot of money I want to be able to CHOOSE which charity I'm giving to, I don't want the government taking it from me and distributing it as they please. I want less government - not more. The more in control the government is, the less freedom we have. And it seems to me that not just Obama, but most Democrats, want to control more and more and more - giving me less and less freedom. And p.s. I don't care for McCain either. Honestly, if we're talking about just meeting someone face to face, I'd probably get along better with Obama! He's a charming guy. But as far as policies go, I lean more towards McCain's views. Remember when I emailed you and said I don't want to live in the predominantly "black" areas because I know all to well the statistics for those areas.....do you know how much that is still bothering me today that I actually "SAID" that and thought that, but if you think about it, that's the way it is.....people should not be punished for ethnicity and not having the intelect to do what corporate people do. Not everyone is that intelligent, not everyone is that beautiful (to be an actor, actress or model), not everyone is so talented to be a major league sport player. So, does that mean that those people should get tax breaks to keep making more money than they know what to do with because THEY were fortuanate enough to have the know how or the goods to make the fortune. Wouldn't it be better for everyone if MORE people could enjoy the nicities of this ONE BEAUTIFUL life that we are given. Granted there is nothing more important than love and that's free. |

| Message | Petra, I always find it amazing how people can look at a situation and see it completely different. That is the awesome thing about the US, is that we are allowed to think differently. However, just because I fall into the "allowed" group, doesn't mean everyone else does and I do think Obama is more of an eclectic type of person/ality that he will bring about the type of change that promotes Unity, not division. Things are crazy here so forgive me if I'm rehashing something that's old news on here. We are packing (yuck). Anyway, Pappy and Matthew, the constant hypocracy is what literally led me to the views that I hold today and my empathy for so many people who might not benefit the same way as you and I do because we are the majority and not the minority. I am probably the most liberal minded person on Petra's blog, but our society has a way of keeping the minorities in their place and I feel a McCain/Palin ticket will continue us down that path. Socialism, You can look at either of them as being socialist if you like. Our military as an E6 gets paid roughly ~$8.30/hr to be oncall 24/7. Our police officers and teachers,even worse. So, if Obama's vision is to benefit the majority and make those that make the most money pay higher taxes, well so be it, they should. They reap the most benefits and should pay the most support to our country. I don't see that as socialism. I see it as fair.  |
