MessageI meet Nick at the Tour of Palm Springs about four years ago. I liked Nick immediately, and we became instant friends. We have riden often together. Nick was a devoted husband and father who was well respected in our cycling group. Nick will be dearly missed not only on our rides but in our hearts.
Our prayers and our loving thoughts are with you and your family.

MessageNick sounds like he was an amazing man! I didn't know him well but he was my brother in law Jack Caouette's nephew. What I did know however was that his mom was so very proud of him and loved him very much! We exchanged Christmas cards and she would always include information about her children. My husband Sherman and I would like to extend our condolences to the whole family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time. May God comfort you always.

MessageI don't know Nick and family, but as an avid biker here in San Diego, and husband and father of two myself, I feel a certain bond. This news has affected me deeply. I met Nick's father on the 56 Bike Path near the accident site this afternoon, and we spoke briefly. I can see what a wonderful family he has left behind. My deepest sympathies.

MessageNick was Tony’s best man at our wedding. Tony was “Nick” for half of the mass, thanks to our slightly forgetful priest. We couldn’t ask for a more perfect day, and a more perfect person to honor Tony. In his speech in front of our 100 guests, Nick reminisced about the days when Tony lived in San Diego and they went to lunch at Rubio’s at least twice per week. He spoke from his heart, with such sincerity, gratitude, and love. I almost felt bad for being the one to separate him from his brother who had been sad when Tony moved up to Oakland to start his life there. Tony spent countless hours with Nick and his family, and at that moment during his speech, I realized what a deep connection they had to one another. I was so proud to be marrying into such wonderful family filled with so much love.

My wish for Nick is that he find peace, and look for my father in heaven. We will miss you...

MessageI had the pleasure of having Deb and Nick's family over at my house for brunch. Deb and I are family friends and it was the first time we were able to catch up after over 20 years. It was a time for Deb and I to reminisce about our teenage years, our parents to laugh about funny stories and our kids to make new memories. And, when meeting Nick, I thought that Debbie had found someone truly special. Nick was gracious and easy going-just like Deb. And, you could tell that they both had a love not only for their family, but for life.

I watched my husband, Mark, and Nick talk about their love of bicycling. Mark's stories about descending a mountain trail and Nick's passion for road cycling. At one point, both boys informally agreed to go for a ride together. I wish now that they would have been able to make that happen.

Deb-if there was anything in the world I could do or say to make it easier for you, I would. I know that you are a special person. You have always been a powerful force and I know that your strength will be passed on to your beautiful children. You were blessed to have him for the time he was here and will continue to see him everyday as they grow.

Always know that you all are in our hearts.

MessageTo Nick's family: Please accept my condolences. I only knew Nick for a brief time in a business capacity when he was at Graviton and I was at Shell. He was a good guy, who acted with professionalism and integrity in quite difficult circumstances. I was truly shocked to hear this evening the dreadful news that he had passed away. I can barely imagine how difficult this must be for you all but hope that over time this and other messages will be of some help. Alex
