MessageFootball is a wonderful game isn't it? Everyone has a view and they're usually all different.

My view - you support Merstham Football Club or you don't. I do. Let's all get over to Godalming today and cheer on Graeme and the boys.

Come on Merstham!

MessageAs we have both been struck down with the dreaded lurgy (flu) we will not be able to get to Godalming today we would like to wish the team the best of luck. We will be looking for three points and for those fans who do travel please get behind Grahem and the team and show them that our support will continue during the difficult as well as the good times.

MessageYes, the boys do train regularly as is mentioned in a message below.
I personally rated Aaron Murphy and it's a shame he's been let go, our loss is another sides gain.
I hope we can kick on from here to the end of the season, and I'll carry on my support of the side through thick and thin as all supporters should... Let's make sure the opposition see us being vocal and united at all home games between now and the end of the year, both when winning and even more so when losing.

MessageI think that Graeme and his team have done an excellent job since taking over with the limited resources that the club has. Although there have been times when I have questioned his decisions I do the same thing with Carlo Ancelotti and he is a world class coach. We all think we know best!! Of course it is disappointing to see the club release players but to be honest Aaron Murphy in my view didn't bring much to the side, Ben King on occcasions had an impact but definitely wasn't resdy for regular first team action and Billy Marshal whilst he could be spectacular at times never really produced consistently enough. All i hope is that suitable replacement are bought in and this isn't the start of the cut backs we saw at the end of last season. At the the end of the day the most important thing is to get behind Graeme and the team, trust in his decisions and look to have the strongest possible finish to the season!

MessageREAD THE MESSAGE BELOW THIS ONE FIRST.... .....reason why,it may be the weather conditions, sickness, unavailability of coaching staff, etc, but Grahame and his team work the lads hard.as Leigh said we have recently lost to Bognor ,whom we could have been 2 up against at half time and Burgess Hill who are 5th,and I think there goalkeeper got man of the match,Merstham are a great club and are holding there own in The Ryman South under a very well respected manager in Mr Grahame Banyard, get behind the gu,s and the Management,I dont want to talk about players, because some comments have already been said, and I have my own views on the players who have been let go,but Grahame only does things for the right reasons,he has my support sp please stop moaning and get behind them. smilie

MessageI would like to make a few points,Mick Sullivan was very successful at Merstham, won you the combined Counties,League Cups,Surrey Cups and got you to the late stages of the vase. But the Ryman League is a differant ball game,Mick did not even stay to see how he could do,jumped ship and took all the players,of which many are not still there.Grahame came in and put together a team and was doing well at an early stage, but then lost players and I think in the end Merstham finished 14th ( I think ),after all what happened that was not at all bad,he has put together a team, squad this year, with( and I dont know )one of the lowest budgets in the division and we are trying to compete against the likes of Bognor( reputed £ 7000-00 a week )Leatherhead, huge budget,Met Police, huge budget and we are doing all right, pushing for the play off,s,but a few hiccups recently, but in my opinion if we finish in the top ten that will be a step forward on last year, which is what it is all about, and maybe, just maybe, next season who knows.Grahame is one of the most honest and genuine people I have met and a joy to know,he is working to keep the club in The Ryman and is doing o.k I think,if you have issue,s you can speak to him,got alot of time for him,and his backroom staff,Tide,s Glen,Tony. How many managers can you say are honest and genuine,Mick certainly was, ent. The lads train regulary, even when it snows( have you seen the pictures)there may be occasions when they cant train, but there is always a

MessageI admit I've been a critic of Graeme Banyard in the past ans was surprised at the departure of Billy M. But Graeme is doing a good job in a difficult situation and deserves all the support we can give him. smilie

If we're looking for a goalscorer it might be worth looking at Marcus Elliot of Redhill. I've watched him a couple of times and he is a hungry player, the temptation of Ryman League football could bring him north. smilie

MessageI was also at the youth team match in Leatherhead last night as a parent, and have been to all the games this season.
I have to be honest, none of them players are ready yet physically. Some are OK footballers, but we have come up against other sides this year with bigger, stronger youth sides. My own son is an example. He is 17, but not physically ready for mens football.
Crawley Down in the first game of the year beat us and had a very good striker playing who is playing in the reserves. Leatherhead were a good footballing team last night and won 1-0. However, the best side we came up against this year, and amazingly came away with three points were Redhill. On the balance of the game, we didn't deserve to win but that is football. Redhill have some fantastic players and on the night couldn't score. They certainly have potential to develop in to excellent players.
I have heard thought that a lot of their boys are playing regular reserve football and some are playing first team football. That is the difference. However some will say their league position doesn't look healthy, but their youth team and first team positions do.
I think some children of 16/17/18 can be very impatient if they don't get their chance very early which is the wrong way to be. Chances will come, it's all about timing.
My oldest son didn't play reserve football until he was 18 and he now plays first team regularly at a Ryman Club so it can be done.

MessageThe Manager and no one else decides who comes and goes. As Secretary I always give him my full support and do the neccessary paperwork.

Ben King wanted more football and at a higher level. But how many 17 year olds are playing regularly in Ryman 1st teams? The manager has a responsibilty to protect our young players. It was not our fault that so many reserve and youth team games were called off, Ben has gone to Sutton United and we wish him well. I believe he made his debut in their Ryman Youth side last night, well if he considers that progress, good luck to him.

The other players have left because they were not doing the job for us, there are new signings in the offing, but proven goal scorers are hard to come by. As an aside both Graeme and myself were at Leatherhead last night watching the youth team play, we have some good players coming through, but they are still 16 and 17 year olds.

I am happy to put my name on this, I don't why others don't just put theirs?

MessageI'd like to just extend my thanks to all at Merstham FC for the welcome offered to us two weeks ago.
Lovely club and people.
Just one negative - a supporter standing close to your dugout hurling abuse at us when we were winnign 4-1 and you scored another. Maybe he would care to remember that goal only made it 4-2.
I am all for sing songs (we are very choral), however screaming abuse at a team beating you lets the image of your great club down.
