MessageThis is such a great site! Thank you for the incredible resource.

P.S. I never knew my Grandpa could draw so well. Very proud of him for his service to and love for his country, and his family.

MessageWow! I feel like a Rip Van Winkle awakening from a long nap. It's wonderful hearing from everyone! You've all made my day!

Ted, no one deserves thanks more than you in helping get the Spangler website started in it's earlier days. It's great hearing from you again!

MessageFANTASTIC Website! I added your link to my bookmark, and forwarded your website to my friends. I really appreciate this tremendous resource. Also, another great website is w w w . v e t e r a n p r o g r a m s.c o m where veterans can learn about hidden government benefits, how to properly increase their compensation, take part in super giveaway specials for veterans, and find out what merchants are giving discounts to veterans.
Keep up the great job!

MessageHello shipmates. I served on the uss Spangler during ww2....serving 2 years, 8 months and one day...Recalling shake downs in Bermuda before heading to Boston. Dec 43 we went through the Panama canal and then to the south pacific. We sailed with the uss England when she sunk her sixth jap sub. We patrolled around Iwo Jima. Many dead Japanese along the coastline. Okinawa was another grueling experience. Many ships were hit up there. I've been fortunate to attend a couple of reunions...one in indianapolis and another in st. Louis. I was born in Springfield il and have lived here all my life. You may have seen my drawing of the Spangler on this website. I drew this picture while on the ship.. Sorry to say that my wife of 66 years, Betty Marie, passed on February 8. We met right after the war, married and raised five children. Saluting all my fellow Spangler shipmates....first class seaman TJ Smith
