| Message | Was stationed at Sawyer from 1988 until I separated from the Air Force in 1990. My youngest daughter was born there. I lived on Provider St. up in the relocatables. I have been thru Sawyer twice since its closing. I served in the 410th Transportation Squadron. We won the base broom ball championship the winter I arrived. Alot of memories of the place. Should run out there sometime seeing I live in Duluth. |

| Message | Hi all I was at KI from 1980 - 1983 as First Sergeant 410 Civil Engineering Squadron. Some good memories and some great people, Military and Civilian. The CE Commander was Col Machie and later Harold Pauley, who retired in the UP. Anyone who remembers me, good or bad, welcome to contact me. Donnie Dixon USAF Retired |

| Message | I was station at K.I. Sawyer from 1971-1974 with the 410th Security Police Squardron. This is also in memory of Denny Coenen who was also station with me at Sawyer who passed away in October, 2006 and was a good friend of mine throughout the years. Had some good times with the guys I was station with wheather we were drinking cheap wine (Boonesfarm) in the barracks or going to Marquette trying to meet Girls going to Northern Michigan University. Or trying to slick down our hair to avoid 35-10 standards and driving to town everyday to eat at McDonalds to avoid the chow hall. Remember that bar named "The Store" that was a hippie hangout and how all the GI's stood out like sore thumbs with their haircuts when they went in there to buy cups of beer for 25 cents? Those were the days! Where have they all gone? Will always remember the guys who served with me as long as I live. ![]() |
