MessageJust surfed into the site.Very interesting and informative. I was never stationed at Saywer, but live in Marquette. My UPS job took me to Sawyer everyday, and I was there to see it wind down in 94, 95. Having been in Marine Corps aviation I always enjoyed the "open house" and didn't miss very many. Hope the musuem there continues to grow.

MessageI was an AGE troop in the the 410 MMS trailer maintenance shop from 75 to 80. Came back in 92 just in time to close up. I transfered all that ground support equipment to the civilian side just before I left in May 95. Does anybody know if it is still sitting in a hanger?
Thanks

MessageI was stationed at KI Sawyer from 1975 to 1978. Just out of Basic & Tech School. Never saw snow in my life! It was a beautiful location though remote. Enjoyed my tour there. I haven't had a chance to visit the area since 1978. I hope to take a nostalgic trip back up to the UP soon. Currently living in NC but never forgot the UP and KI Sawyer. I was in the 2001st and worked in a electronics maintenance shop next to the Command Center. It seems so long ago and yet still remember some things as if yesterday. I didn't realize how young I was back then. Oh, hello Ted Stutzman. Thank you for letting me reminisce!

MessageGreat Site! I was at Sawyer from Jan 74 to Jan 79, first assigned to the 410th and later to the 2001st. I lived on Albatross drive and everytime a 106 would take off, my screen door would bang like the house was coming down. My 2 sons were born at the base hospital, and my daughter will graduate from NMU next fall, so I still occasionally drive through and look around.
Hopefully I can get back to see your bird when you put it on display.

MessageI was stationed at KI from June '82 to Dec '85. Part of the 410th SPS. I had the chance to visit the base this past summer with my brother and our wives. My how the memories came flooding back. I am glad to see that the closure did not "kill" the area. You have done a great job keeping Sawyer in the spot light and I hope all of us that were stationed there will not forget it. I hope to return in a few years and take more time looking around. smilie

MessageI was stationed at KI Sawyer from '93 to '95 in the 410th Supply Squadron. I worked in Repair Cycle, filled in for the dwindling Honor Guard unit, and finally became a part of the Base Closure Inventory Team.

Kudos to the people managing this website ~ you're doing a great job! smilie

MessageDear Sir or Madam:

I see you now have a Web site. I have used information from the Web site to make a little notation about the museum in the 24th edition of "Michigan Travel Tips," which is a monthly Internet-only publication. In the 25th edition, I will put in a PSA about the museum that can be used freely by broadcasters in the state of Michigan and that you may wish to tell broadcasters about. By the way, for three decades, I talked about places to see in Michigan on radio stations throughout the state (as an employee of AAA Michigan). To see the catalog page for "Michigan Travel Tips," see www.hologlobepress.com/travel.htm (you can find it through Yahoo! or Google).
