MessageWe've kind of had a lull in activity. I guess we needed a break after three years of pursuing a 106 and restoring it. There will definitely be more to come on this site. B52 repair, replanting part of the 10 tree which are a memorial to 10 K.I. servicemen who lost their lives in a KC135 crash.
Any and all info is absolutely welcome.

MessageGreat site ! Seems i spent my whole childhood at KI . 309 Fortress St. From 63 to 70. My pop (LTC James Chapman Jr. ) was a navigator on the B-52`s up there till he went to Vietnam to fly in the AC-119K Gunships. The absolute best years of my life. I hope to get back there to visit. Good luck with the museum. smilie

MessageMy ex, two kids, and I lived at KISawyerAFB in the early 1970's. My ex, Milt Etter, was a navigator on a KC 135. We lived on Hustler Street. I loved my life up there, going to Macinac Island, Escanaba, Marquette, etc. The colors in the fall were incredible. The mosquitoes had can openers for mouths! My daughter was born in 1971 at the base hospital. The bitter cold, wind chill, humidity, SNOW, snowmobiles are all pleasant memories (now!) If we sound familiar to anyone out there, please feel welcome to contact me. I would love to see pictures of the town of Marquette, Gwinn, and the base itself. Thanks for the memories, Pat

MessageI'm proud to have served at K.I Sawyer AFB. I was stationed their from 1975 to 1977 with the 87th FIS as a F-106 Weapons Load Crew Cheif. I still have a original un-used 87 FIS Red Bull squadron patch. The Michigan UP is beautiful country. After all these years I still miss the sound of the aircraft. Haven't visited Sawyer since 2000. I was not awhere of this web site or your restoration of the Delta-Dart. I will be planning a visit to the museum.Great job on the F-106 and web site. I am proud of this "Great Country" we live in, proud to have served in the USAF and proud of all my fellow veterans.

MessageHi,
I was stationed at Sawyer from May 87 to Oct 89. I was assigned to the 2001 Comm Sq. and I lived in base housing in a multiplex on Liberator. I shoveled a lot of snow!

Some of the people I remember were TSgt Mark Holmes one of my supervisors and TSgt Will Frick a neighbor in the SPs who I did a lot of fishing with. We always slayed the Northern Pike at the Dead River Basin.

Other folks in the shop were TSgt Ed Davis; SSgt Mike Ottensman; Cathy Morgan civilian; Randy Price civilian Sperry Computer tech; MSgt Benzel; MSgt Bushey; Lt. Kinsey; and a bunch of other people who's names just aren't coming to me.

We rented videos and ate subs in Gwinn and went to ShopCo in Marquette. We climbed rocks in Presque Isle.

I remember driving to the UP for the first time and thinking I was going to drive off the edge of the earth if I went any farther north.

It would be nice to talk to some of the people from then and remember old times.

Thanks for your site.

MessageThank you for taking the time to put a smile on our faces, and give us pause to recall some of our best memories. smilie What you have done could only have been accomplished by a group of airman who had served with pride. Correction, a group of airman who are STILL serving with pride. Thanks again!!!! smilie
