MessageMy wife and I joined the Air Force at the same time in 1975 and were sent to K.I. Sawyer as a Direct Duty Assignment right out of basic. It was our first time ever north of the Mason-Dixon and I will always cherish our experiences there. I worked in Legal and my wife was with the 46th Air Refueling Squadron. Greetings and best wishes to all who were stationed at the best kept secret in the Air Force!

MessageKIS was my intentional terminal assignment from 1978-1980, with the 87th FIS. Just about the prettiest base in existence, and we loved it! My wife and I visited KIS in September of 2006, and could not believe that 156 Banshee was still there, as well as . The museum was super, as was the rest of the installation. On June 10th, I will be taking our daughters up there for a "nostalgia tour," and there will not be a dry eye, since both attended school just down the road.

MessageOne of my comrades forwarded me this link and I spent a bittersweet 20 minutes reminiscing over the good times but wondering where my lost youth went.

Was stationed at Sawyer from August 1980 to February 1990 in the Accounting and Finance Office in the Sage Building. I still think of this as the best decade of my life.

10 years after retiring, I still look for a group of people who share the same commitment to their mission as did the outstanding men and women I served with.

I am living and working in the DC area but still have a home and family in Michigan and plan to visit Sawyer this summer.

Hope all is well with my former mates and I plan to monitor this site to learn about your life since our paths diverged.
