MessageMy time at K.I. was some of the best in my life. The lacation was great & I loved the weather. Member of the 410 CES from 1977-1980. Good memories of fellow service men and women, and the experinces of the job. Took me to heights that I haven't been at since. smilie

MessageHi all. I was at KI from 75 till retirement in 83. I was in 410th OMS and Job Control. Great place with a lot of fond memories. Some good friends still there. I have been back a few times and it is always a sad thing to see it closed up. I,m now retired and fishing here in Brunswick Maine. I live close to the soon to be closed Brunswick Naval Air Station. May we always have good memoried of KI.

MessageTi is pretty in the summer However I hate to rain on anyone's parade, but I was stationed at K.I. from '67 to '69 & I remember the weather to be much worse than listed here. Please check base records as Marquette does not show much below zero ( at least as listed in the link from Wikipedia.) Winters were harsh. One winter we had show over the tops of the alert area fences & we traveled to outer post(I was an "APE" (Air Police) by either Power Wagons with cleated chains on all 4 corners or Arctic Crawlers (Airfield was closed these nights except for emergency workers and Airman stuck in the tower ops & on alert). We had to exit barracks via 2nd floor doors & pushed snow with the door to open it, I remember being told at guard mount on more than one night that temp was 64 degrees below with chill factor of 74 below. the base newspaper for Aug. 1967 stated the high on July 4th was 32 degrees & it snowed.
