| Message | I was stationed at sawyer in 91-92 in the 46 arefs as a hydraulic mechanic. was there when they shipped the tankers out. Had a choice between orders or moving over to the 52’s. I took orders to Florida. Have missed northern Michigan since. What a beautiful place. I’ve been wanting to go back up but life circumstances took over. Someday I will get back up there |

| Message | Stationed at K I from October 75 thru December 76, worked in Military Pay. I handled transfer ins and outs....all new transfers, I gave the briefing at SAGE. Got my scuba certification there, with an open water dive in Lake Superior in October......cold cold water. A shout out to my brothers in 672x2. |

| Message | Wow, many memories up in the UP. I was in the Air Force from 82-86 and spent my whole tour at K.I. Sawyer in the 410 FMS Squadron, working in the R&R shop. Even had to pick up a B-52 with airbags after it ran off the runway and collapsed both front gears backwards and recovered a F-106 after the nose gear would not extend on landing. I always wanted to go back and visit the place to see what it is like now. |

| Message | Wow.. Such great memories come back to me from visiting this site. I was with the 410th MMS from 1980-1984. Oh what I'd give right now to go to Gwinn for a Jemma's sub sandwich! Back in those days, the smelt would run up the Tucoosh river in Gladstone MI and you could fill a cooler full of them in 5 minutes. Our squadron Commander would buy a keg and we'd have a huge fish fry in the lot next to the maintenance building. I was just a kid from the city back then, but the Sgt's took me under their wing and set my feet upon a path which I will always be grateful for. I think they would be proud of their efforts. I worked with Norm Raeck, Roger Gunsell, Bill Tackett, Bill Armstrong, Phil Kratz, Jim Spencer, Mark Lazarus, Dave Yamamoto, Joe Prusi, Joe Biskup, Chuck Colucci, OZ Oswalt, Gary Jerry, and so many more great guys in the WSA. If you see this drop me a line. I lived on Big Shag lake at Queen's Cottages for a few years and can remember seeing the Northern lights and shooting stars as I sat fishing at night in the great UP. The Wilsons were great people. One of the gifts that I still carry with me to this day is my love for country music. Learning skills and serving in the USAF were some of the best days of my life. To the people who work to preserve this part of history - I thank you for all your efforts. |

| Message | Arrived at KI in 1976 at first to 410 OMS Tanker Branch OIC but soon transferred to 410 FMS as Maintenance Super. Was not going to buy a snow mobile but the Tanker Dock Chief had orders and said try it out - one snow mobile lead to another. Lived on Jupiter close to back gate, ski hill, and school. Boss was Major Dickerson. Remembered the snow fall that buried Buffalo, Green Bay Snow Bowl, uses pulling school bus over the end of runway due to drifts, rides to Northwoods on snow mobiles, camping all over UP, and great friends. Left KI to go to the ALCM test program at Edwards in 1978. Was a great assignment for a northern tier base. Want to come back for visit one day soon and take in the breathtaking scenery of the UP.  |

| Message | Someone write, let me know how the 62nd went to the 87th and became the red bulls. I was in the 87th, but at Lockbourne A.F.B.,Ohio until 08/67. Also did transit work on F106's and F4's. The base at that time had a refueling wing of KC135's and several EC135's. When it went T.A.C. Langley moved a wing of KC130's to our base. Loved working on the 101B's. Our tail section was all blue with yellow stars. Did several T.D.Y's to Wurtsmith and Tyndall. Enjoyed all of them. |
