| Message | One of my best memories is helping you sall smuggle this aircraft out of AMARC. They (USAF) RELUCTANTLY cut the deal to give it to us, and then tried to renege literally as the truck holding the aircraft was pulling out the back gate. Fortunately for us, they had no jurisdiction once the aircraft left AMARC. Red Bulls: 1. Bureaucratic Government: 0.  |

| Message | Stationed there May 1962 to Sept. 1965 410 FMS R&R. Worked for MSGT Larry Waldron. Also worked in Maint. Management and Man Hour Accounting for SMSGT Waters. Also spent some time in FMS training section with SSGT Carl Maday. Lots of good memories. |

| Message | Air Force brat. Step-father, Andrew Dunn, was stationed at the hospital. Mother, Terry Dunn, was a civilian nurse there. We were there from 1968-1971. I was in some 7th, all 8th and part 9th grades. I have many, many fond memories of the area and school friends. |

| Message | I was second officer to report to the 62nd FIS when KISawyer was not operational yet. No runways or airplanes were there. I walked in to the squadron building and up to the only person i saw. He was in jeans and a sweatshirt. I casually said " 'm looking for the CO ". He turned to me and said " I'm Col McNeff". As a fresh 2nd Lt I was caught completely off guard by his casualness . Had to rent an apartment in Guinn since no base housing was ready yet. When the pilots arrives, I got real lucky and was paired with Clyde Dishong. I live in Loveland, Colorado |

| Message | dental officer July of '61 to July "64 and loved every day I was there. Happy hour with wife and pals at the OC. Blueberries,watching planes from the control tower,fishing at Big Shag Lake,son born at base hosp-Wally Pearson was ob.... Lived on Falcon ST next to Ron Kloster and Phil Secules Another pal was Tom Fox across the st from us. Regret not staying in USAF for career. Nicest people and we all looked out for each other. |

| Message | Sorry about this but I forgot to put the email address in the public spot. Planning to be at the reunion this Aug and hoping to see a lot of the old timers of the 87th FIS. I was the Commander's Secretary until I was transferred over to the SAC side of the house in DO. When the base closed, I was sent to Tinker AFB and thought I was going to work with aircraft folks but I had a rude awakening, it was completely different. I finally transferred to Eglin AFB FL (my hometown) and Ski followed. I retired 9 Jan 2009 with 36 yrs. I really miss KI Sawyer but have met a lot of folks from KI here in Navarre/Ft Walton Beach, small world. I keep in contact with Lela Murphy, Anne Curtice, Kevin from the 410th, Laura Neason, Maj Greeley, Jerry Murphy, Van AlStyne, Norm/Char Winner and Virginia/Tom O'Grodnick. Would like to hear from some others. Marge Nielsen passed away I was told. Hoping to see you all on the third of Aug. Take care and be safe on the roads. | Message | After 33 years I recently visited northern Michigan. Geoff Smith, former USAF and "marvelous tour guide" gave me a tour of the base (I was there in 1978-1980)and the museum. It brought tears and smiles to my face and heart. It is a wonderful museum and we all must support it. Anyone who was stationed or worked on the base know how special those times were. I plan to do regular giving and hope others will consider the same. Thank you so much for the tour, the visit and sharing. susie |
