MessageOh yeah Matt - lol - I knew what you meant with the JFK statement; I was just being a smarty pants. smilie

Oh yeah - and let me add this - no matter how anyone is raised, they will sin and make mistakes. My point was that, with proper Godly training, you can avoid those kind of colossal mistakes, or repeated mistakes - that make the difference between "good teens" and "bad teens". Just to clarify. I didn't want anyone to think I would ever suggest anyone, including teens, was going to be perfect. My goal is to raise teens whose heart is right with God, who use God's Word as a basis for their decisions, and who have the strength, knowledge, and wisdom to make the right choices.

MessageMatt - I have read your comments. smilie

When I say 'raising children right, according to the Bible', I include teaching them Scriptures just like the one you mentioned so that when they are faced with difficult life decisions, they know what to do. How do you suggest kids are going to KNOW those Scriptures if their parents don't teach them? That's PART of raising a child. And it is a parent's responsibility to teach a child those things. I don't know why this concept is so difficult for everyone. How a child is raised DEFINITELY affects the decisions they make.

p.s. So the things you put on your blog a couple years ago, about how you were raised... none of the things that happened to you were mom/dad's fault? You would have made all those decisions no matter what the heck they did?

I just can't believe you all seem to think that how a teenager acts has NOTHING to do with the parents?!?!!!! Are you just trying to win an argument? Because you all are making absolutely no sense. I may as well just kick my kids to the curb at the age of 12 if nothing I do after that matters! Speaking of ludicrous!

MessageI also never said infants, toddlers, and children did not need their mothers, but they don't need them 24/7... So while you say I've not read your posts, trust me I have, I say you are not reading my comments... smilie

MessageI do agree with Timberly though, I know you are "adamant" on the topic Petra, but teens have a mind of their own, as I've obviously already stated, although I do hope it works out for you Petra, but no matter how well children are raised, they do one day start making their own decisions, for good or bad... The decisions teens make, whether they make them under peer pressure, or because it's what they want to do, whatever, no matter how PERFECTLY they were raised, it really has nothing to do with how they were "raised", it has EVERYTHING to do with: "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" So while your parenting skills may be superb, the Devil is still out there, and teens, who as Jackie pointed out, have not quite yet matured, can and WILL be tempted... So yeah, I agree with Timberly on that one...

MessageLOL on the JFK statement, I merely used him as an example of how she, Palin, could be in the same situation, kids playing around in the Oval Office... smilie

Yeah, I'm commenting as I read through the comments...

MessageI'm not hanging her out to dry. I appreciate, from what I see on the media (which, hello - how much is that really?) how they seem to be handling it. I wondered at the circumstances in order to bring up teenagers/parents in general. I obviously have no clue how things are handled in their home. All my thoughts on her personally are simply conjecture to bring up broader issues. How would you suggest a woman who is not nurturing handle it if she 'accidentally' gets pregnant? I know women who aren't as 'natural' at being a mom as others, but who still step up to the task and end up doing a great job, with God's help. I think God can and does give us the strength for any task, even if it isn't something we aren't seemingly gifted at - if we seek His help. Look at Moses. I don't think those women you describe have a pass to just hand off their kid to someone else because they aren't good at it. They just have to work a little harder. And I agree - most teens aren't very mature. Which is why - as parents - we have to teach and guide them. If we left them to their own devices, they'd be in a world of trouble 24/7. Brain development or not - I believe the Bible is clear on right and wrong. And everyone is accountable. The younger the person, true - the easier it is for them to fall and/or be swayed into wrong. Parenting plays a HUGE part. I'm actually kind of surprised at the amount of people saying the opposite.

MessageAlso, when it comes to teenagers. Their brains are not fully d-e-v-e-l-o-p-e-d enough to comprehend long term effects. I think, remembering back from college, it takes until you are 27 or so to fully have your brain developed. Having s--e--x seems like it would be fun, they are not even capable of realizing how that one act can change their life forever. We can drill that in their head until we are blue in the face, but it won't change until their brains are fully done growing. So, I don't believe that because Palin was Govenor and/or working she should be hung out to dry for her daughter getting pregnant.
