MessageMy brother Cec and I visited your beautiful town in June 2008 looking for some of our roots.
Found our ancestors John Norman and his wife Grace Antle's grave sites on Albert Sparkes land. Albert was kind enough to show us around. Talked to a few other locals along the way. Great people!
I've been telling everyone about Brigus!
Hope to visit again soon.

MessageGreetings! I am writing the biography of American polar explorer, Louise Arner Boyd (1877-1972). On one of her voyages, Miss Boyd lead a 1941 expedition to Greenland aboard the Effie M. Morrissey captained by Robert A. Bartlett.

As part of my research, I am seeking contact with descendants of the 1941 expedition and there were many from Brigus: Leonard and Bart Gushue, Tommy and William Pritchard, George Bartlett, James Dooling, William and Robert Bartlett and Charles Batten.

I would appreciate it if any descendants of the above would contact me - any information, memories, family stories etc. would be gratefully received.

Many thanks!

MessageGood evening. My grandfather, Samuel Clarke, was born in Brigus 8 July 1881. Tomorrow I am going to meet a man who was also born in Brigus, Mr. Gushue, who tells me his family has been there for over 300 years.

Is there any local historian that might be able to provide information on family roots? I would love to know more and look forward to visiting some day.

My father remembers meeting his fathers cousins after the Great War. One, Sgt Major Janes, had fought at Beaumont Hamel with the Newfoundland Regiment.

I also understand that there are a lot of Clarke's in the area. Perhaps someone might know of the family tree.

Thank you for any information you might be able to provide.

Henry Clarke, Deputy Mayor, Peterborough, Ontario
