MessageThanks for putting this up! I'm the granddaughter of Jacob Spalding, son of Charles Spalding, son of the Jacob Spalding mentioned. I remember my grandfather talking about his grandfather, and the horse and carriage that he drove. (And that he loved to eat pie for breakfast, which we all thought terribly amusing.)

Very best regards.

MessageI so enjoyed reading this family history. I am the great-granddaughter of Charles Abel Bowman and Maria Maud Ripley and the great-great granddaughter of Able Bowman and I believe Susannah (sp?)Frothingham and she is descended down from Wm. (if that's not the correct order, I know it comes down from Wm Frothingham. I do not have the paperwork in front of me at this moment.) I know I am also descended down from the Howe line.
At any rate, the discovery and study of my family has been an interesting lesson in history and traditions. And I found it very interesting reading about the origins of the Frothingham name.

Oh, I was born Barbara Bowman and my father was Charles A Bowman and his father was Frank Ripley Bowman. Father was born in Parkersburg WV. Grandfather and the rest of the Bowmans are from Billerica, MA (and Charlestown and Lexington MA).

MessageReply to Dean Larson:
Dear Mr. Larson,
Thank you for your appreciative comments about my account of the early history of the Frothingham-Gregory Ranch in Ellsworth County, Kansas. It was kind of you to write.
In the Frothingham Family History website did you look at the pictures that I contributed to the website's photo gallery? Those pictures include pictures of my father and his parents.
As you will recall, my account was originally drawn up for the Ellsworth County Historical Society; and it was the basis of a write-up in the December 2004 issue of its newsletter, "Sharing History". Have you been in contact with that society and its director, Ms. Georgia Smith? She is actively building up the Historical Society's archives; and, if you have not already done so, I urge you to share with her your reminscences concerning your father-in-law and the ranch, and copies of any photographs that you have of him and the ranch.
Thanks again for writing.
With best wishes,
Richard Frothingham

MessageWith respect to the ancestry of Marshall Frothingham, I would call attention to the 2009-03-23 message from Marshall's close cousin, Anne Hilliard Edwards. As Anne notes, Marshall's ancestor, George Frothingham Pooke, changed his name to George Pooke Frothingham. Why? Probably to keep the Frothingham name from dying out ("daughtering out"smilie in that branch of the family. I have assembled detailed information about Marshall's branch of the family and its relationship to my branch, which I plan to mail to Marshall's widow Gloria, without further delay.

MessageHi, I am researching the ancestry of Marshall Frothingham, 1945-1986. Father Carey Frothingham b. 1905, grandfather, George Pooke Frothingham b. 1852. Your records and 1860 and 1880 censuses indicate he was George Frothingham Pooke, mother a Frothingham?, but he used Frothingham as a last name. Do you have any info on this?
thank you,
Donna
