| Message | I had the pleasure of working with Nick for only one short year at Nanogen. This was a tough year, as the company was struggling (eventually going out of business), and of course Nick was bearing a lot of that burden as the CFO. With all that stress, he was always pleasant and always available to answer any questions. He had the best smile. At the company picnic I attended, he took the time to make me and my brother welcome and chat with us, and still keep an eye on his kids as they were with the clown getting their faces painted (I think). I am blessed that I got to know him even for that short time. My heart was broken when I realized the accident I was behind on the 56 took the life of someone I Knew and liked so much. I was so glad at the service to hear Deb share of the many family trips they had taken over the last year or so, and know that those memories will last forever! I trust that Nick is having a fabulous time riding in heaven, and that we will all get to see him again. My prayers go out to Deb, Nicholas and Marissa...you will have comfort and peace in your memories of your wonderful husband and dad...God bless you. |

| Message | Nick joined Ernst & Young when I was a young audit partner, and I had the pleasure of working with him on a number of clients including Graviton. When Nick told us he was leaving E&Y to become their controller, we were sorry to see him go but knew he would do a great job for Graviton. Then, several times over the years I had the opportunity to serve as a reference for Nick. I always told prospective employers that Nick was a consummate professional who they would get to like and respect more and more every day they interacted with him. I also had the honor of Nick consulting with me on several occasions for career guidance and advice. A few months ago he told me he was considering multiple opportunities -- he clearly liked the potential of Sapphire the most but was concerned that it was only a six-week consulting job rather than a permanent position. I told Nick that, after Sapphire spent six weeks getting to know him and seeing how he worked, there was no way they wouldn't hire him on full-time. Sure enough, five weeks after he started, he had a huge smile on his face as he told me that, yes, Sapphire had in fact made him that full-time offer. He was very excited and looking forward to helping them become a huge success. Nick was one of the truly all-around great guys...level-headed, even-keeled, always positive, and just an exceptionally solid person in every respect. He will be dearly missed by so many. | Message | Words can not express how sad we were to hear of this tragic accident and Nick's death. The entire family has been in our thoughts and prayers since we learned of it. We will carry with us for the remainder of our lives, images of Nick as a young teenager in the back yard of the Atascadero home. Love Mike & Sue Abell |

| Message | I was jogging along the bike path by the 56 Fwy this morning and stopped by the make-shift shrine that has been arranged there in memory of Nick. I was very touched when I saw his photo and the white bike suspended in the chain link fence. It really made me stop and think about how precious life is and how quickly it can be snatched away. I jog along that path almost every day and could never imagine being injured let alone killed while I am out running. I am deeply sorry for your loss of a cherished husband, father, brother, and son. | Message | I worked with Nick at Nanogen for a number of years and always enjoyed our conversations about the business, cycling, and family. We both rode the same model bicycle, but Nick rode his a lot faster and farther then I could ride mine. My thoughts are with his family, and Nick will truly be missed. |

| Message | This is for Nick's kids: I didn't know your Dad for a long time. Your Dad was the Controller at Sapphire and I was a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers. We met for the first time a couple of months ago, and we had a couple of business meetings and we also had lunch one day. I remember the first meeting. I was wondering "Who is this guy? What's he going to be like?" I was a little leery, like we get when we are meeting someone important for the first time. Well, I left that meeting really liking your Dad. He impressed me in a lot of ways, but I think I was most impressed by his sincerity. He struck me as just a very genuine guy. So I asked him to lunch. I recommended the cheese burger to your Dad because they place we ate makes a really good one. I was very pleased when he got it. (He ate the whole thing, too.) We talked about some business stuff, but we also talked about personal stuff. It was so clear to me how much he loved you guys and your Mom. He told me about a lot of the things you did, including that bike ride from the river to the ocean with Mom and Sis following in the RV. I didn't know your Dad for a long time, but he made me like like I did. That is the kind of great guy he was. |

| Message | I worked with Nick at Ernst & Young in the late 90’s and always remember him to be, friendly, respectful and a stand-up guy. I saw nick a few years ago at a FAS 109 workshop and then again a few months ago. Last time I talked to him I told him that he was staying in great shape! I would have guessed it was from all that cycling but he said “no it was from chasing his kids around.” My thoughts and prayers are with the Venuto family and especially for his children. |

| Message | Please give our love and concern to your children and the whole family. We have a beautiful state, and up north here in Humboldt Co.. those deaths have occurred too many times.. I can't do much but pray for your family, but I will also dedicate my life to being a more sensitive and highly alert driver. The road belongs to us all... bicyclist suffer too much and my neighbor's son died in Santa Cruz on the horrible Mission drive.. by a truck.. other stories. take care and God Bless you all. bobbi |
