MessageI watched American Violet today and I searched for you hoping I could write. I wanted to tell you how much I admire your tremendous courage, perseverance and wisdom at the time that it all happened and then the fact that you care so much to put your name out there in the form of a film. Wow!!!
I work with inmates and I know that the justice and prison situation in the United States is almost unbelievable but also invisible, ignored or well beyond the reality of most of its citizens. Your film is powerful, meaningful and really hard hitting. I truly commend you.

MessageI purchased the movie about your life story and watched it for the first time last week. It was horrifying the things that you had to endure and even more horrifying that it is still going today. I commend you for standing up for what was right and not rolling over and giving in. Very courageous! Stay strong in all that you do and be encouraged.

MessageIm here to say THANKS for your fight back. Im from a small Est Texas town myself, (not anymore) but I can relate to every step in the movie. Just this last year there was a dragging of a Black Male behind a pickup truck, and they know whom the guys are, but not convicted. A town that is still separated by rail road tracks and not one positive business on the have-nots side. I have a story that is first time ever told from my mouth, right now. Something that happened to me by the local Pol/Dep.. Long story short, I was beaten down like a dog. All because a there was a rumor that a popular girl (white girl) that had the likes of myself. So there was a pre-warning given to me that evening by the good old boys. I had a choice then to go to the police and make my claim but how can I do that when they were cops themselves. trust me, this is not unheard; "racial attacks" on blacks in this town. I wished I was you and didnt coward out and maybe I could have received the help and change thing in that town. I have only been back in my home town at most 5 times in the last 15 years and still nothing changed. Thanks for the story once again, and I cant believe that all what happen that DA is still in office today. Especially when those issues are still going on there, thats just messed up. Good luck

MessageCivil rights are won and protected by individuals with great determination and courage or as my Mom use to say..."I knew poverty, and I was poor. If we did not band together for what was right we all would have suffered even more." Thank you for your determination to make our country a better place for many people living in poverty.
