MessageTore House, Westmeath. My grandfather inherited Tore in 1930 but was forced to sell it as a result of the Land Acts. Until two years ago we thought that there was nothing left as it had been burned by the IRA. We would love to confirm it's history and if only we had the money to see it restored.
Wonderful work to be recording these treasures. The church where the family are buried at Newtown Lowe near Tyrrell's Pass is also in ruins. Are you recodring churches too?

MessageGreatly enjoyed the excellent work. Photos contain a certain element of the past that permits the mind to travel back in time. Of special interest to me is the Pilkington Manor at Westmeath, Tore. Richard Pilkington is part of my grandmother's direct family line making Richard a GGG.... Grandfather of mine. Like many others,I have been compiling notes on the family. It is a unique personal experience to actually see the manor and link the image to those who lived there. Best regards,

MessageThis is a wonderful site
I am very interested in old Irish houses,
and have a huge collection of books. I was born
in Dublin, but have lived since I was 20 in London.

Rockingham house was one of the most beautiful
houses in Ireland by Nash and could have been
restored after the strange fire of 1957.
It was an act of vandalism to demolish it and today there is an ugly concrete viewing tower
where this wonder once stood. Loved the book too.

MessageHi,

I got a present of your book last Christmas and just want to say I love it. I see you did not have any houses from Donegal in,and wonder was there none or have you not made it up that far yet.
I am from the Inishowen area of Donegal and wonder is there anything of interest up there
I look forward to your next book and wonder do you have these pictures on display anywhere.
Yours sincerely
Winnie Healy

T.B> Hi Winnie. I just ran out of room in Book 1. A second volume will be out next year which includes Donegal and more from the north. My exhibition will be in Castletown House, Celbridge for April and NUI Galway for May/June. Free entry at both locations.
