| Message | Dear Bryce, I was disowned by my family when I was 18 for being homosexual. 3 years later I was recruited into a transformational ministry group promising freedom from homosexuality through faith (they used Exodus International's materials and techniques.) I wasted 19 years of my life trying to earn the love of my family, society and God. I endured weekly exorcisms for many years, Christian psychotherapy and a cocktail of 4 medications designed to kill my sex drive. Nothing worked to change my sexual orientation in the least. In the end, I came out a second time at age 40 and lost my entire social network of "compassionate conservative" friends, I was ostracized from my family again and even kicked out of my own business. I feel that I wasted 40 years of my life trying to earn the unconditional love of people who were incapable of giving it. I would have been so better off if I had accepted myself early in life and built my world around people who loved the real me not the me I tried to be so that I was acceptable to them. My hope for you is that you do not waste a day of your life trying to earn love from people who will ultimately withdraw it if you do not life up to their standards. Please accept yourself and build your world on your true self. Live an authentic and integrated life. All the best, Brian Mahieu |
