MessageI am a cousin of Vincent R Linenkugel who was stationed at Greenville Amry Air Base in 1942. I know that Vincent was a mechanic, but I am not sure if he worked on planes or motor vehicles. Vincent married while at Greenville to Hazel Unknown. He died on 26 Aug 1942 due to heat stroke/carbon monoxide poisoning. His body was accompanied by Sergeant Leo Healy to Columbus OH where his parents lived. Does anyone remember Vincent or know of an existing picture of him? I have looked through the 1942 Annual of GAFB, but did not find a picture. Vincent's parents lost their oldest son 9 years before Vincent's death, leaving his parents with no chilren. I have always been determined that the Linenkugel sons would not be forgotten. Vincent R Linenkugel is listed at the WWII Monument in Washinton. I hope that someone does have some knowledge of Vincent and can maybe help me in finding more information or a picture of him. Thank you! Carolyn

MessageJim Norris. I read your request for contact with a member of 54-I. I graduated in your class. After leaving Greenville I was sent to Ellington for Advanced Multi Engine in the T-29C. In July 1954 I returned to AFCS Air Force Communications Service and spent 18 years flying Flight Inspection Missions out of Robins AFB, Rhein Main AB, Ger, Robins AFB, Ga Wiesbaden AB, Tinker AFB, Clark AB, Saigon, Phan Rang, Udorn, Korat AB, back to Tinker where I retired in 1972. In Flight Inspection I flew the T-33, EC-47's, ET-29C, B-47, EC-54, Sabreliner, and most of the last ten years the C-140 Jetstar. I was an enlisted GCA Controller at Wright Patterson while awaiting our Preflight Training, then Malden AB for Primary before Greenville. I note we were on the same promotion lists, and I see your picture in our Class Yearbook. Graduated from SOS in 57-C, FAA Flight Inspection School in 1956, USAF Instrument Pilot Instructor in the T-39 in 1962, Was Chief of Flight Operations, Chief Pilot, Squadron Commander of several of our Flight Inspection Squadrons. Retired at Tinker as 3rd Mobile AFCS Communications Group Chief of Communications Operations. Live in Marietta, Ga and would be glad to have you contact me. Greenville was where my Father was in WWII with the BT-13 Primary Training. I attended the fifth, sixth and seventh grades in Greenville. As the result I renewed old friendships with school day friends, and teachers. Made the assignment very pleasant. Dick Malone

MessageI was a member 54-I graduating May 12, 1954. My wife and I were married in a military wedding in the old Base Chapel 2 hours later. Retired in 1972, Flew the T-28 and then the T-33.

During WWII my Dad was at Greenville from 1942-1945 as an Aircraft Inspector. Coming back to Greenville as an Aviation Cadet and reuniting with adult friends from my grade and middle school days was a real treat. My Instructor was Captain Jack Barnes originally from Batesville Arkansas. Last I saw him he was a Lt Col at Spangdalhem AB, Ger in 1960. I completed flying at age 75 with 12,500 flight hours, 900 Combat hours in Vietnam. Live in Marietta, Ga after retiring again from Rollins, Inc. Recommend visiting the Greenville Airfield Museum of base history. Went their to celebrate our 50 wedding anniversary in 2004 in our personal Piper Arrow II. Lots of memories from my Dad's time and mine. I retired a Lt Colonel after 21 years.

Messagesmilie What a surprise to see Pictures of GAFB again! I was stationed there in '64 for the Medical Helper course 90210. I'll never forget arriving there after a long tiring bus ride from basic training at Lackland AFB. As we unloaded from the buses a shout went out from a sergeant who was waiting for our arrival, "Who is ready for a pizza?!" Of course, we all shouted, "We are!" Money was gathered from us all and soon we were enjoying some of the best pizza, ever. What a change after just finishing Basic Training.
I really enjoyed my time there and I must say learned a lot. I won the award for the "most improved student". I also got my first stripe there and was certainly proud.
Most of us went on to Gunther AFB,Ala. for more schooling.
I have many pictures of the guys in our barracks and some taken on base. I can try to upload them if you think you might be interested.
I have often wondered over these many years if life has been kind to those men I was privileged to serve with. I sincerely hope so.
With Kind regards,

Ken Weygant

Messagesmilie I'm one of the "town girls" who enjoyed meeting the airmen as they were stationed for training in 1962-1965. I remember going out to the dances in the airmen's club on weekends, and having some of the guys come to church with me on Sunday and to dinner at my home afterwards. The bus station was on Washington Ave in front of the bank and I would often take it home as I lived on the highway going to the base. Would love to know what happened to a lot of the guys who passed thru. It would be great to have a register of those stationed there for training in the 60's. I have tried to locate Robert Louis Hall who was from Alabama, transferred to Okinawa when he left Greenville and married a girl from there. That was in 1964 or 1965. As a note, would like to thank all the guys who served our country proudly with so little recognition.
