MessageI am the great great grandson of Frank Bollinger the one who lived in the very first house on the right coming down the hill. I now live just off of Henry River road. I drive through the old mill village and I am scared of the for sale sign that has been up for the past couple of months. My prayer is that someone with a passion for history will buy it and preserve it, but in this day and time land is becoming more and more precious. The odds are that a developer will buy it and demolish it for a housing development. Let's not let this piece of history be torn down!!

MessageI slowly drive past the area over and over again, I stop and look around with complete awe and amazement. I envision a beautiful treasure, yet it is in danger; on the brink of vanishment. I would freely volunteer my tallents, skills, labor, and most definitely avail my enthusiasm in an undyimg effort to piece back together, preserve, and awaken a very worthy, rich, and significant historical moment. Not only for the honor and memories of the original founders and community residents and lives of folks from days gone by but also for the good of many in the present as well as the future is sufficient reason giving way to restoration and preservation . I have the gift of vision, but lack the funds to purchase the property, however I have faith that it will not deteriorate because of countless possibilites.

MessageAlthough I did not grow up in Burke County, I am amazed at its history. I travel Henry River Road alot and the old houses have always grabbed my attention. I loved finding this website and learning more about the mill. Now when I travel by the mill, I will not have to wonder anymore. I would love to see the mill and the houses restored back to original. This site, after being restored, would be a great place to visit.

This site should definitely be on the National Historic list.

MessageReading about this old mill village really touched my heart. It is true that if you grew up on the mill hill, you always have a special place in your heart for those memories. I grew up in the East Marion mill village in Marion, NC. My dad worked at Marion Manufacturing Co in the weave room. He was a loom fixer. I have nothing but fond memories of growing up in the "village" as the "uptown" crowd referred to it. Those were indeed "Happy Days"! Thanks for the memories..... smilie

MessageI recently moved to the area just north of Henry River. It looks like it used to be a VERY nice place indeed. I find myself curious to know more about the town and the mill itself. Would love to see more pictures of the village in its prime.

MessageI drove by the villiage today and I could scarcely believe what I saw. It was so clean and orderly for a place abandoned that I thought I had stepped back in time a few decades and the people had left only a few years earlier.

I had no idea what I was seeing, but I drove through it with eyes of wonder, and knew that I was seeing something very, very rare.

I learned of the villiage's name by calling the people who wish to sell it, and then this site turned-up as I searched the internet for information.

It has been a priviledge to learn more of it's history and of the hard working people who lived their. Perhapse there is a place in the villiage's future for a revival of sorts.

MessageI love this website! My grandparents, John Frank and Lily Bollinger lived in the bigger house at the top of the road until 1962. My parents, Alvin and Carley Rabey Bollinger grew up there. I have many very fond memories of the mill village and their old home. I also had aunts and uncles who lived there. Nanny, Mandy, and Minnie Lail, Ben and Barley Rabey, J.P. and Beulah Rudisill Rabey. I would love to see this wonderful place restored.
