MessageI was in Navy 1965 to 1968 in VS-27. We had S-2E's. I was a ADJ-3. I was on board for many cruises. I mostly worked the flight deck. I do remember the smokers and their was mess deck cook who was very good. His name was Harvey. He was assigned from our squadron to mess deck cook. I remember many cruises, to the Med, Bermuda, Spain, Italy, etc. The Randolph was out of Norfolk, usually docked either at pier 7 or pier 12. When on shore our squadron stayed on the Air Station Hangar LP-13. Two of our squadron aircraft had a mid air crash, all 4 crew members died. The four pilots names were LtCDR Potter, Lt Cotignolga, LtCMDR Archambault, can't remember the fourth one.
I remember many things that happened on the Randolph. I was a Kitty Cruiser, in before 18 and out before 21. I returned to Ft Lauderdale after the Navy. The Navy paid for my GI Bill to go to college. I worked for Eastern Airlines, National Airlines, Pan American World Airways, and Delta Airlines. I retired form Delta Airlines as Captain. I have flown B-727, L-1011, MD-88, B-747, B-767. I guess the Navy helped me get my start in life and the Randolph was a part of it. Thanks to the Rando-Cando attitude.

MessageMy Grandfather Domenico Femino served aboard the USS Randolph from 9 October 1944 to 18 October 1945. He was injured during the kamakasi attack 11 March 1945, and I was able to see the report of his injuries on this web sight. My grandfather had told us many stories about his service, and the night of the attack. He said the airplain hit the area of the ship he worked in, and that his friends talked him into seeing a movie that he had already seen. If not for those friends, I would have missed out on many facinating years of memories that I was privilaged enough to have shared with me. Thank you to those who talked him into going and thank you to all of the crew and family members for sharing in giving me and my children the freedom that we have now. My grandfather passed away 2 days before Christmas in 2000. I hope he is enjoying the reunion with his shipmates in Heaven. If anyone has anything they can share with me about my grandfather I would love to hear it. Also, does anyone have any information on the Pearl Harbor Avengers? I was told they joined 6 months to the day and minute of the attack on Pearl Harbor all over the U.S.. My grandfather joined on the steps of Providence Town hall 7 June 1942. God Bless.
