MessageI served aboard the Randolph from the summer of 1962 until April 1964. I was assigned to S-1 Division. It really brings back memories when I read the guestbook. When I read Johnie Jackson (page 21) I feel like I do know him but I can't be sure. I remember the things that he does.
After being discharged I went into lawenforcement. I retired after 30 1/2 years. I retired as a lieutenant. I am a member the American Legion and still have a place in my heart for my fellow service men. I also have a grand son in the Air Force. If any of you know me or remember me or don't know me at all feel free to e-mail me. We can chew he fat about the Randolph.

MessageMy father, Walter J. Brown was an airdale on the Randolph in the mid fifties. He did a Carribean cruise and a Med cruise. He was an aviation store keeper in the S division. His battle station was on one of the fantail 5-inch guns. He was the gun's telephone talker. He was aboard during the Suez Crisis when the Randolph assisted in the evacuation of US civilians from the mideast. He told me the gunners had orders to shot down any plane which entered the fleet's airspace whether it was Egyptian, Israelis, French or English. He passed away with coronary proplems in 2007.

MessageOn board from 9/1962 - 2/1966. Spent time in most of the IC shops and the last 1 1/2 years in the Fresnel lens shop with Frank Tiboni. Lots of good times as well as a few not so good times! Enjoyed it and still think it was a good experience. Had a lot of good friends, a few of whom I still see one in awhile.

MessageI SERVED ABOARD THE RANDOLPH FROM NOV. 1958 UNTIL JUNE 1961. I WAS A BT AND MY ASSIGNED FIREROOM WAS THE NUMBER ONE FR. SOME OF THE MEMORIES HAVE LEFT MY MIND, BUT STILL REMEMBER A FEW GOOD ONES. I REMEMBER A COLLISION WE HAD WITH A FOREIGN SHIP THAT MESSED UP OUR BOW AND HAD TO GO TO PORTSMOUTH NAVY YARD TO BE REPAIRED. ALSO REMEMBER GOING TO DRY DOCK SAME YARD TO HAVE THE SONAR BUBBLE PUT ON OUR HULL WHEN WE CHANGED TO CVS. IT WAS GREAT TO GO TO THE 07 LEVEL AND WATCH PLANES TAKE OFF AND LAND. IF ANYONE REMEMEBERS ME GIVE ME A SHOUT.
