Message3 daughters looking for shipmates to share stories of our Dad - Wm "Bill" Evans AEM - VF102 on the Med Cruise 1956-1957. Daddy just passed on March 5 - we are arranging for services at Fort Logan, Denver, Co on March 27. Daddy wouldn't share many stories, but we could see it in his eyes - he loved it!
Please email me, we would love to hear about him. Also wondering how we might acquire a copy of the yearbook for that cruise.
God Bless and Thank You to all who have served and are serving!

MessageMy father, clown Emmett Kelly Jr., was on LST 783 that arrived in Ulithi 22 MAR 45 and tied up next to AV Jason (Aircraft Carrier Repair Ship) that was tied up to the CV 15 Randolph.

As a matter of lost trivia, the 783 carried I-beams from the Jap sugar mill at Sharon Kanoa, on Saipan in addition to I-beams from Guam to repair your ship. He spoke of how Jason's big crane lifted the I-beams off the 783 and swung them to the flight deck of the Randolph.

I know the crew had other things on their mind, but if anyone has any recollection or story of the LST 783 and/or their crew's assistance, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks to everyone for their service to our country!
