MessageI'm still working on a website with pictures, but I am trying to keep things together. However, I wanted to list some names of men whose pictures my Dad had in his album.. while they were on the USS Randolph. I hope anyone that's interested, will contact me. Some of the pictures are on my site at I have others but unfortunately, Dad didn't put names on the back of all of them. I will add some of the others in a few days, and hope someone will recognize people in these photos.I looked at some of the photo's on this site, and just can't believe how lucky my family was that my Dad came home. I have always been proud of my Dad, but I'm also proud of all of our other servicemen and women who fight to keep up safe. The pictures I have are of, John T Schmuck, W D Ruff, E F Ayers, H J Zuhowski,Baltimore, MD, not sure of this spelling Carmody, from New York, Nellis, from PA, Kopachi, Gerald, from Maine, Page, from South Carolina.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL

MessageI am the son of Harold Nevin Shutz. My daughter just found his name on a muster list today, January 23,2009, so I googled her, the Randolf, and found your website. My dad left the Navy around 1950 and in later years lamented not staying in for retirement as I did. He was also on the USS Salem and an unnamed fleet tug.

MessageI served on the Randolph in '67 & '68. From the Med cruise through Rio and lots of great ports in between. Worked as a pipefitter in R Division. Didn't fully realize then what a great time that was.

MessageI went aboard the Randolph while it was in dry dock in Norfolk, 1964. I was an Aviation Structual Mechanic(hydraulics)E4, ships company - way aft on hanger deck, port side at the fantail in the sheet metal shop. I remember so little, no names at all. However, I remember the shake down cruise to Gitmo, the the liberty in NY and Quebec. Also a high speed run down the East coast to ??. It was good duty for an Airdale. I was discharged in 1965 before it went on any fun cruises.

MessageMy Dad served on the Randolph. His name was Wilbert Ellery Gould. He went into the Marines in 43 and was discharged in 45...He was a firefighter,he was a machine gun crewman and it say Lt. A?A Gun Crewman. I believe he was on it most of time.He participated in quite a few raids.. I am going to put it all on the computer, just as soon as I can decide where to put it.... I have a lot of pictures, some of them with the names on them, and a lot of addresses of some of his buddies one of them was Henry Zukowski, I can't remember if there's a picture or not..I will look and see, I've been wanting to find anyone that knew him when he was in the Marines, because he never liked to talk about it.. My Mom said that his buddy was killed right beside him in the mess-hall.. But he was just to troubled to talk about it. My brother was Also in the Marines and served in Vietnam from 66 to 68. He doesn't talk about it either... So it would be good to hear from anyone that might know him..I may have pictures of someone's family member, and I would be glad to share them.... My Dad passed away rather suddenly in 86, after helping me take care of my Mom for three years, she lasted another 22 years before she joined him.... I am really into genealogy and so maybe I can put some pictures up there or on myspace.... My given name is Elena Marie, but my brother couldn't say that when I was born, so he just called me Suzie... So I answer to either name..

MessageI served aboard the Randolph as a Midshipman in 1961 for my summer cruise. I met lots of really great sailors and had a fun cruise. One day, as hazing, a petty officer sent me for oil for the relative bearing. I went to ship's stores and told the Chief about the joke. He put some oil in a bottle and labeled it "Lubricant, Bearing, Relative." I took it back to the joker and asked him to show me how to oil the relative bearing. His response was in the finest Naval tradition!
