Messagei read the entries on the web site, and if memory serves me (which has its good days & bad ones)in ref. to the oct 6,1961 collision with the atlantic viscountess, we went to the brooklyn navy yard for repairs.
as to the damages, what i could see was the port gun mount was crushed againt the hurricane bow and the hurricane bow was pushed into the main hull to within a couple of feet.this left a 30-35ft hole in the port bow.
i was below decks about midship at the time of the collision and just made it my gq station in the special weapons office/magazine area,so i did not get to witness any of the activies topside.

ps you don't take off points for spelling do you.

MessageIn 1968, The USS Randolph CVS15 was my first of three ESSEX class carriers that I served aboard. My first cruise was to South America, and what a trip that was. Go Rio! As a member of V2 Division, as an airman (E3) at the time ,I was the #4 arresting gear engine operator. Later on I got moved up to Primary Flight Controll (Control Tower)where I was trained by ABE2 Jack Snyder. I served aboard CVS 15 until she was decommissioned in Boston, then being transferred on to the USS Yorktown CVS10 and later on to the USS Intrepid CVS11. Some of the best people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing were guys off the Randolph.
