MessageI served with honor aboard the Randolph in the oil and water test lab and finished my tour in # 1 fireroom (1960 to 1963). This was a wonderful experience. At the time I did not know that we were making history. Grissom, Glenn, Cuba. About 10 years ago our company moved John Glenn's house to a museum. Our company found out I was on that recovery ship. They sent our "News Letter" to him; which he autographed and returned to me. The Best To All. Thank You for taking the time to serve and protect this wonderful country.

MessageHi, my father John P. Saganich served on board the USS Randolph in 1946 to 1948. He died in 2005 and my family lost all of his military records in a fire. I would love to hear from others who may have known him or has any pictures or information. I would love to be able to show his grandchildren pictures of him serving our country.
Thank you,
Lisa Driscoll

MessageIn February 1962 the Randolph was my primary recovery ship after my orbital voyage in space. After a three-orbit flight, I landed near Noa from which I was transferred, by helicopter, to the USS Randolph. I just want to say thank you again to the crew of the USS Randolph for picking me out of the sea that day. God Bless

MessageIn 9-57 at midnight I went aboard in Greece, a W1 called Gunner said unless you know something your next 2 years will be spent chipping paint, I said a little about electronics, he said son I’m in a good mood, I’m going to put you in Fox Div. I had no idea what Fox was but I said thank you sir. Fox had a 30 man crew, 2 officers, 2 Chefs, 4 first class, 8 second class, 12 third class, and me, the only SN. The officers had their place up front, the Chefs had their place in the Chefs qt and the rest had this one big compartment where we all bunked, you guessed it my first job was compartment cleaner, always felt sorry for house wives after that. Oh, that Warrant Office that put me there, he was in Fox Div. also, what luck on that dark night when I came aboard, and I got the best division on the ship. I was the only member who did not go to FT school, but a month later the power to be gave me to J.J. Bush FT2 who was in charge of the Mark-25 radar, he took me under his wing and rest of my tour was as good as it gets, now and then we talk and remember the good old days. At the end of Aug.59 my tour was up and I went back to Alabama where I live today on my farm, except in the summer time where I live at my place in Jackson Hole Wy. God made a man out of me on the Randolph and he gave me more than I deserved after my tour. I have often wished I could have taken a 2 week cruse with the same old crew, just one more time. if you were in Fox Division on my ship let me know.

MessageMy Dad, Raymond S. Gagnon, was a signalman aboard the USS Randolph during World War II. He kept a scrapbook during his time on the USS Randolph and I have many photos of him and his mates.

I have just discovered this site and will return in the future. I'm sure it will provide interesting reading.

MessageI served on the Randolph from March 1961 to September 1962 in the Supply Department Office. Familiar names in the Frank Bitondo notes especially Jerry Ney. I wonder if they were part of the Distelfink Battalion sworn in July 4, 1959 at the Kutztown(PA) Folk festival and part of Companies #294 and #295 at Great Lakes Naval Training Center.
