MessageI went aboard the Randolph Jan.24 , 1945, from Pearl AMM2/c with CAG12( night fighter division...Was on deck 3.11/45 and heard an approaching aircraft...Thought (he's too low) thinking it was one of ours...the crash was huge, blowing 12 tbfs over the side...I grabbed a hose, yelled"turn it on" They did...knocked me right on my ass....whipping me around like a toy in a dog's mouth...Young fellow ran over and jumped on me ..We managed the hose after that....Saw 4 guys emptying an ammo locker just forward of the flames...Tried to give them a gentle spray...60 years laterat a reunion I told the story...
A pilot were with said "that was me" (what are the odds)...Put the hose down after 8 hours...and was sent to bed...Next day Jackie Cooper came over to see the damage ( he was drummer for Claude Thornhill orch..playing on FALALOP...I am 86 now, tired, but fortunately, I rember almost everything...Admiral wanted to send us bakck to Pearl for repairs, but our skipper(Felis Baker) said we could do it with the subtender in Ulithi for repairs.....I have to go now, but will come back with next chapter...soon....WingsieNav

MessageMy father Eugene Lynn Cochran BT1c served on the Randolph around 1955 56' time frame. He loved his country and his Navy career. We often would get him started ( in his later years ) about his time in the service and the stories could go on for hours.
Dad is no longer with us but his memory lingers strong.
God Bless the USA

MessageGreetings to all. My grandfather, whose name was Paul W. Terry, was onboard the USS Randolph from 9/44 to 10/45. His rank was FC 2/C (T). I do not know his occupation, but I do know that he went to Fire Control School in Newport and then Advanced Fire Control School in San Diego. If you have any information for me that would be great. Thanks
