"fireball, as honrey as you were when we were serving together, i would have thought somebody would have shot and killed you along time ago.then, i saw don harter's name, from oh. don, i had a question i wanted to ask and never did.please contact me at [email protected] then i noticed ed mcgowan's name.as i said i stood desk watch in d c central and when i caught a 0800 watch "mac" was like clockwork, coming in for a permit to keep a door open.and, last but not least was j j stagg. i'll never forget j j,the first time i met him after i came on board. we met over by the laundry bags.he stuck out his hand and said" yeh, i'm j j stagg from "joisey city, joisey" lol.

I WAS ON THERE WHEN THE SECOND CLASS ELECTION WAS KILLED IN #3 FR WHILE STANDING A ROTATING WATCH ON #3 GENERATOR. I USE TO TALK WITH HIM WHEN HE CAME DOWN ON HIS ROUNDS. ANY ONE REMEMBER ALL THE RUSSIAN SUBS AND RUSSIAN SURVEY SHIP WE USE TO CHASE AROUND THE NORTH ATLANTIC? AND HOW THE RANDOLPH ENDED UP IN A COMIC STRIP OVER ALL THAT WENT ON UP THERE. ANYONE REMEMBER WHAT COMIC STRIP THAT WAS, I THOUGHT IT WAS DON WINSLOW OF THE NAVY BUT RESEARCH TOLD ME THEY STOPPED IT IN 1955. I WAS ON THE RANDOLPH FROM EARLY 1958 TO DEC. 1960, SO IT WASN'T DON WINSLOW. ANY HELP?

MessageLooking for Donald E. Perry who served aboard the Randolph from 1955 until 1957. A short red headed Ky boy who is probably still in jail from selling all that moonshine.
If he gets out I would like to hear from him.

MessageIn the mid 1960s I was 17 or 18 and a drummer in the Royal Scots Pipe Band. We played on the decks of the USS Randolf in the Firth of Forth off Edinburgh.I remember speaking to a guy in civies when leaving the port of leith, only to discover later he was the captain. At my age I was so thrilled at being on an American Aircraft Carrier. I still have the ships photograph.
It has taken me until now through the internet, to realise the proud history of this carrier and its crew and of some of its sadness and that she has now gone.
