| Message | I was in S-7 division, data processing, 1968. Being on the Randolph was, for the most part, an uneventful assignment. Except when the ship was undergoing an annual at sea evaluation near Norfolk. The crew were at their damage control stations, mine was near the chapel in the stern. As the ship was doing high speed, hard turns the rudder control panel in the steering room caught fire, for real. The DC party had to rig de-smoke vent to the steering room, about 4 decks down. Then, taking turns, 2 men had to crank a hydrolic device to get the rudder back to center, that seemed to take about 30 minuites. The bridge steered the ship using various port/starboard prop speeds to continue with the evaluation. |

| Message | Brought her out of mothballs in 1953. Served on shakedown to Gtmo. Transferred off to Port Lyautey, French Morocco for last 2 years of my tour. Worked in radio shack as radio-teletype operator. |

| Message | My Uncle Jack Keinath flew many missions off the Randolf between 1943 and 1946. He sunk many Japaneese vessels. He used to attend the renions every time they had one for the Randolph. If anyone Knows about any information about Randolph or her fighter crews I would like to hear from you!Thanks to all who served. |

| Message | I went aboard Randolph in 1959 as ICFN and left her as a second class in '61, retired as FTCS in '77. Best ship I was ever in, we owned every award available to an Atlantic fleet carrier and were on our way to our 5th Battle efficiency E when the Shangri-la picked up the first astronaut and they got it over us, we were not happy, someone said the gold paint had already been ordered. I was aboard during the collision in '61 when Harry Cook was CO, terrific skipper, everyone loved the guy, remember the "Harry and Jim show" when we got closed circuit TV, he and the XO read the news each night. I remember when they passed the word to standby for collision to port, we were playing cards in the IC room and they backed her down so hard the deck plates were jumping to the point it was difficult to walk. I've always credited our high level of training for keeping that from becoming a real disaster, we had some heros that day for sure and BZ to those guys up fwd fighting the fire. The old girl was a mess, but no-one was injured, had we gotten stopped and the tanker passed the bow, she would have cut the Stormes in half. Many wonderful memories of serving with some terrific shipmates in a grand ship of the greatest Navy in the world. |

| Message | I served aboard the USS Shangri-La CVA 38 in 1966-1968. A friend of mine, Sam Taylor served on the Randolph. I wanted to see what life was like on the Randolph and discovered that both ships offered simular conditions. I have enjoyed seeing the pictures and reading the stories. |
