MessageMy dad was a communications specialist on the Randolph from the beginning. I remember the stories of her shakedown cruise and battles in the Pacific. He detailed the horror stories of battles and Kamakazies. I have an ashtray that's a replica made of peuter thats as well as an extensive scrapbook of the Randolph during WWII. Because of all the stories he told, I feel like I knew her myself.

MessageTo Hugh Phillips,
It was good to read your message about your your Dad. My son told me of this web site. I served aboard the Randolph from 59-62 in V2 division. I remmber your father Denny and his sense of humor. I think he worked in arresting gear, I work in the catapults. I still have my year book (I plan to give it to my son) and have some pictures of the day we was to pick John Glen, and Gus Grissom. My memmories of the collision at sea with the freighter at 1800hrs on clear sunny day is still very vivid. My compartment was on the port catwalk just after the gun mounts. I dont remmber who I was with but we helped move the 5" ammo to a safe place during the fire. I will always remmber the Randolph, as I was only 17 when I went aboard. I have a lot memmories of that time and the cruises we went on. I hope to hear from you or your dad at sometime in the future.
Always remmber "Rando Cando"

Walter Naff
